Hi there,

I just bought four wheel locks for my Versa. I was about to install them, but I don't know how I can accurately mount it to the specified wheel nut tightening torque, like how many turns of the wrench I should give?

Greatly appreciate if you can share your experience. Thanks!

Owner's manual specifies 83 ft-lb (113 N·m) for the lug nut torque.

Thanks, but how I could make sure I turn the wrench right to this?

You will need a torque wrench or find someone who has one. Just swap out a lug nut for a locking lug on each wheel. A tire shop can help you if you do not have the tools.

Does anybody really actually use a torque wrench to put on tire lugs? I've changed hundreds of tires in my life and never once used a torque wrench.

Yeah, just grab the lug wrench out of the trunk and loosen and remove a lug nut and replace with a locking lug. Lean on the lug wrench fairly well when tightening and you should be good to go.

It's a good idea to use a torque wrench and it's two fold. 1) you are sure it's tight enough and isn't going to come off. 2) you know you didn't over tighten and risk contributing to warping the brake disk/hub etc. Excessive over tightening can also cause the bolt to fail prematurely.

I use a torque wrench because of those reasons.

locking lugs are pointless. most are VERY easy to remove. i've bought a few junk cars with no lug key and locks are never any worry.

save yourself "side of the road, lug key lost" headache and return the locking lugs.

Torque wrenches should be used for a lot more than just changing tires (any mounting bolts on or around engine block, accessories, etc.). Just ask your closest mechanic and they'll tell you all kinds of horror stories usually ending in blow torches and expensive repair bills. The manufacturer spends a lot of time calculating the optimal tension of every bolt in your car for good reason, and a responsible garage will take the time to check the specs before tightening each one.
