Hey Guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me with the correct offset size before I purchase 17" wheels and tires on my '92 Z32

I would like to run a set of M.T. 275/40-17 street radials on the back and CZP says 17 x 9 + 30 should work so they don't stick past the fenders and also not rub on the HICAS steering arm.

I was also suggested for the front, 17 x 9 + 22 for a set of 235/45-17 tires.

Greg and Seb dyno tuned my ride a month ago and it pulled off 605 rwhp but the new OEM fuel pump reached its limit, so there is a bit more in the engine with a second or larger fuel pump.

Any advice will be appreciated, I just want to make sure I don't have any tire rubbing issues or I will be hooped once I buy them. I want to achieve good, solid traction for 1/8 and 1/4 mile drags.

Thanks,

Jim

Would a pair or 18"x9 +20mm using 245/40/18 (Front) and 18"x10 +20mm using 285/30/18 fit correctly on a TT lowered just 1" , no fender rolled?

In response to this question, from my narrow experience of Z32's so far, I currently have 275/55 - 17" wheels on the back with no rolled fenders or suspension mods (not sure of exact offset) but when I hit dips in the roads and not that big of ones, the rear tires hit the fender wells, so from this, I think it may be very questionable about fender rub with your wheels but offset will be the key issue, I think.

Hey There 'anv2tk'! I think you picked the right forum to join, I think I have got better info here than most sites and they have Great Moderators here too, like TTMan and others. This seems to be a challenging subject because from what I have been reading that different wheel manufacturers can have a different offset than others which, for me, gets fairly confusing sometimes. There is a lot of money at stake if you pick the wrong set of tires and wheels, if the seller wont take them back.

My Advice, for what its worth, would be to buy them from a place that deals in them all the time like CZP (Coz or Ray) and get their opinions and agreement, if possible for return if they don't fit or if you see wheels on someone else's ride that tickle your fancy, find out what they have, where they got them and copy cat them. I really haven't had much luck on any forums with solid answers because there is so many different combinations of wheel sets out there and the main mistake would be getting them too big in the first place or "fixed" offsets that you are not able to play with spacers to get them to fit so they don't rub on the fender wells and the inside.

I have 5- Z32's now, 3 of which are daily drivers with one of them dyno tuned at 605 rwhp  , 2 - NA's (1990's) one is auto, the other is 5 spd. and I have 2 junkers for parts of which one is a '90 TT 5 spd and just bought a '90 2+2 auto for 650 bucks. So, good luck in your search and if you have "big plans" for your NA, take my advice and I'm sure most others will agree with me.........a big bank account. Z32's are not cheap to fix them up properly with OEM or Hi-perf parts but in the end, it is worth it because they are beautiful cars and deserve the respect. The first Z32's are now 23 years old, some in good shape, some not. I had a Z31 and thought it was "all that", well the Japs took the Z32 edition to an all new level back in the day and I get people gawking at my "girls" all the time and compliments like you wouldn't believe.

Z32's are like women, if you don't treat them good and take care of them, they will cost you big coin in the end..... :nono: ........LMAO.

Good Luck!

As already stated cash is what will make the car go... but what'll be the results? Do a search for Honad's project slicktop... the dude did it all, and did it right. Then judge for yourself.... I would keep my NA the way it is and enjoy it for what it is, and for myself, not others. Doesn't mean let it go to waste, but to mod it for speed... not sure you'd be happy with the results with an NA. Then again, to each their own.

I agree 100% with Zazen Z on the underlined quote, there is only so much you can do to an NA and it will NEVER come close to what you can do with a TT , if your "Big Plans" are to try and make a 10 second car out of it, it most likely ain't gunna happen. My 2 NA's are nothing short of Lame compared to my "Built TT" but they drive beautifully on the highway and around town, I break out the TT Beast when someone needs a Licken' :rotflmao

When Greg and Seb (SZ) tuned my ride, Greg said he doesn't understand why people waste the money on doing Auto to Standard tranny conversion for example, he said (in his opinion) "If you want a standard tranny, buy one with it already", and I tend to agree with him but as Zazen Z said too, "Each to their own"

I plan on doing a TT conversion to my '90 NA 5 spd but I bought a TT- 5 spd junker (1500 bucks) and will be using all the parts from it, that will save me Big Bucks not having to buy salvage parts and shipping costs. Pre-planning and lots of good advice can save you Big Bucks too!

Good Luck! :mike

I bought a 95 SMZ TT (#41) a few months back. I've only got to take it out one weekend. Even then I was trying to clean up some bad wiring that I discovered on a crappy aftermarket stereo install. I've been out of town working ever since then. The previous owner had put some Ruff racing wheels on it. He had the rear fenders rolled and every time you hit a bump you can hear the side of the tire rub the fender. The car came with the Ruff wheels on it and came with the factory set of Yokohama AVS wheels and they need some TLC. I really like the wheels on the car but hate the offset. The chrome on the Ruff wheels are pretty pitted out. I'd hate to trash the original wheels and will probably see about restoring them back to their former glory. Like I said I've been out of town for a bit but had been interested in some TSW wheels. I had really liked the Volks or Rays wheels but couldn't justify spending that much on a set of wheels. I looked at the TSW website and found the Jarama, in silver. The site called for a staggered fitment of 18 x 8" with a 20mm offset and a rear of 18 x 9.5" with a 40mm offset. I ordered some from discount tire website because they offered a pretty good internet discount. However I haven't seen them because I've been out of town working. They have a fitment disclaimer that worried me a little bit but I figured it was to release them from legal liability. I'll be glad to check them out when I go to the house at the end of the month. Anybody know about the TSW offsets? Are they true to what the website claims for fitment?

Most places won't take rims back once you mount the rim to the car or mount the tires on the rim. You can test fit the rim on the car to make sure your lug pattern is correct or to get an idea of were the rim will be in relation to the body, but dont put all the lugs on. Put 1 maybe 2 on by hand to just to get a feel for the rims placement. I spent a lot of time recentlly on finding which rims fit for the look that I wanted. Most rims shops will say do the +22 offset, but I felt that was to high for the rear with a 10.5 rim, the same rim would stick out to far with the +22, so i did a +30mm to bring in in a little more. My rears have 18x10.5 with a +30mm offset with 275-35-18 tires on the rear. After mounting the 2 rims I adjusted my rear camber arms to get a feel for the camber at 0 (sticks out past the fender) on the passanger side and at the most negative camber on the driver side (wheel sits just inside of the fender). My previuos rims were 18x9 +40mm and they were fine but I prefer a more flush look.

So I'm still trying to understand how the offset works lol I been racking my brain about it, I think if i go with +40mm 18x9.5 up front I could always use spacers to bring it out?

And also I want to run 18x10.5 in the rear, but the wheels I want are +27 offset... I dont know if it would look good I think it might sit to far out... I'm looking at TSW Nurburgring's for anyone wondering....

I can't figure out if I should go with these or find different wheels I like...

Overall I would run
18x9.5 +40 in front with 255/35/18
18x10.5 +27 in rear with 285/30/18

Any input would be appreciated if i understand the offset correctly I wouldn't be able to space the rears to bring the tire/wheel out for the flush look... The car is currently all stock suspension, w/ hicas and its a 92 tt.

To clarify all I want is a good flush look, but not stanced.

Ok nvm after some serious searching I found what I needed to know, they dont look too great.

So my set up is gonna be:

Enkei PF01 - Matte Black

18x10.5 +38 Rear
18x9.0 +35 Front

255/35
295/30

Should look really good, yet still do what I want it too do!

You might want to find someone with 30 or 35 tires on their car and ride on them. It's going to be rough ride, and they tear up much easier.

I'm sure it will, but I dont mind it for the time being, this is only gonna be my dd for about 6-10 more months then I'm gonna try to get a 4 cyl s10 pickup for a dd, and build this for a track car or something like that

Not new to the forum but new to the Z32 chassis, anyway how feasible is a 18x9 +15 front and 18x10+25 rear on a NA Z32 on stock NA brakes. I like the Yoshira wheels, specifically the Champion and the DY-37C. These wheels will be on the car until the 2jz swap happens then I will go with something else that can handle more meat  I have no problem with rolling or pulling fenders for now, just wanted something semi-aggresive for now.

I just put a set of 18" off a 350z on my TT with 30 degree all the way around and they fit perfect. I'm not the Guru but I don't think 17" should be any different as far as offset goes but maybe someone with more knowledge can elaborate on this. I found an excellent tire calculator on line that you can play with aspect ratios to different rim sizes to try and maintain an accurate (within reason) speedometer reading also, so you don't have to fiddle with speed sensors between NA and TT's. All I do know is you don't want to get too carried away with the back offset or you will have to roll fenders cuz when you hit bumps, they will rub on them.
Hope this is of some help!

Hey I'm new to these forums and been thinking about putting 17s on my Z. I'm looking at some XXRs 17x9 +25offset all around and going 245/40r17. Would it fit all around or would I need a little modification?

Hi I'm new here... I Would love to have some 255/40r17s all around... I own a 1990 300zx 2+2 manual transmission... It came with 2005 Tiburon GT chrome wheels (r17) and I love that kind of style only in alloys... Now I was wondering what kind of wheels do I need to buy regarding the dimensions or can I fit the 255/40r17s on the stock Tiburon GT wheels??? Please HELP ASAP!!!

Can they fit? Most likely yes. Should they? Probably not. They are 40mm wider than the stock 215's that came on the Tiburon wheel. 20mm overhang on each side. Also, exact fitment would depend on your height. Is it stock height?

What size wheels? The size you listed is fro the tires. car looks great BTW
Thanks for that!

The wheels are 18x9.5. I need to get rid of my wheel gap though
I know this is an old post but I'm looking For wheels for my NA about the same size. Volk lists a +35 and +40 offset. Which do you have? Would either fit on our cars?

That's 18x9.5 +35. +40 would be too much. You'd also have a tough time with +35 depending on tire size/ ride height if you wanted to go super low.

Any idea what size tires I should run?? The wheels I plan on getting are 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 back. It's been a damn headache trying to decide.

Do you think these would work with say 255/35R18 all around? I see your link had offsets with 295 in the rear. I also found these and their 18x9.5s are rated at highest of +22 offset but I'm afraid it wouldn't give that big lip those in your link do.

I'd feel safe in saying those should work without doing the complicated math, lol. It's not far off from the setup I linked, and that one has plenty of room to spare. And you're right, a +22 offset will have less of a lip, and also may have clearance issues on the inside, but it should still fit. +22 is an ideal offset for our cars, though, depending on width.

I am new to this upsizing game, but would love to put a set of wheels off of the '06 350 on a '91, base model Z. Will these wheels fit w/o any mods.?

Also, aside from going up to the 18" wheel, I'm thinking of just keeping the tires the same, 225/40/18 on the front & 245/40/18's on the rear. Trying to keep it simple.

Any feedback on what it would look like?

Work fine, looks pretty good. No clearance issues with stock calipers/brakes. And correct on keeping the tires the same. You want your rolling outer diameter to be as close to factory as you can.
