What’s that in the windshield

I had my glass replaced a few months ago at safelite. They chipped the glass while installing so I went back and got a new replacement. All is fine. But yesterday I noticed something weird in the glass, looks as if a piece of clear tape is there. I don’t feel anything on either side and cleaning doesn’t get rid of it. Doesn’t look cracked and nothing hit the glass. I should mention though it’s been close to a 100 degrees the for the last 7 days so not sure if that is playing a factor.

It’s hard to see with camera and from the outside but you can see it if you look. I just want to make sure it’s nothing structurally wrong with the windshield.

That's a delamination in the plastic core. It won't usually cause problems unless something happens to hit the 'shield right on the flaw, then it can cause an instant large crack or shattered area instead of a small star chip. It can also spread depending what stresses the installation applies to it. I'd take it back to them.

I might as well take it back to them if it’s going to be a potential issue. I hope the next windshield doesn’t have this issue.

Does the heat play a factor in this? I know for sure it wasn’t there before this heat wave.

Yah, when I say "stresses," it can certainly encompass thermal stress. The area isn't completely transparent anymore, so it will definitely create a heat differential with the rest of the shield and could cause gradual expansion of the delaminated pocket. Bottom line is, it's a flawed 'shield and I wouldn't put up with it. Take it back and make them replace it.

Yeah, I'm having them replace it again this weekend under warranty.
