Folks,

I have a model 720, 4wd Datsun pickup, and I am trying to figure out what the 11 digits in my chasis number stand for - especially the last two.

Does anyone know? If not, can you point me to an authoritative source where I might find out?

Nissan dealers don't seem to have long enough memories : )

Best regards,

Im sure its like a serial number for your truck and I think the last 2 number determine what year it is but I might be wrong!

Thanks tilmer,

That's what I was thinking, but it would be good to hear from other folks as well. Do you own a 720 with the two, last digits of the chasis number matching the year that the vehicle was actually turned out of the factory?

If so, please post again.

All additionalr comments greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

A VIN decoder should be able to help you out.

... That's because they rely on the US government system in place only since the 1990s or so. That system uses a 17 digit number, not an old, 11 digit number like I have. Also, if I am not mistaken, the VIN is stamped on the engine, while the chasis number is usually on a plate, inside of the door well. That's where mine is, anyway.

Also, my vehicle was probably produced for the "export" market, because it has a King Cab, and short bed. Furthermore, unlike most 720s, it may actually have been built in Japan, instead of Tennesse, which may be another reason for the weird number.

No 11 digit folks out there?

Keep the responses coming ...

So not the VIN?

I have a stamped number on my truck, under the hood at the front on the frame, but I thought that was more of how many were made number. but my vin is something else.

The VIN is on the door panel, the frame number is NOT the Vehicle Identification Number or vehicle serial number. I have a Chilton's manual and original owner's manual for my 80 720 pickup. That is what they both say.
