Crappy performance at lower rpm. The MAF got real "confused" at part throttle transitions (lifting, rolling into WOT going up a hill in a higher gear at too low an rpm, etc) and it would go way rich. If we leaned out those specific spots tuning, it would lean pop in other types/areas of driving. It just didn't have the resolution down low. Now WOT in boost it working like a dream.

i guess i'm confused. so your high hp MAF did or didn't work?

It worked, it was just "touchy" and I got poor gas mileage. It's because we "made'' it at the shop. I daily drove it like that for a year or so. Some of the aftermarket ford ones are much better at dealing with that problem. I just didn't go that route and had a chance to go to a D-jetro for no money what so ever, so I jumped on it.

sorry it took a min to get back to you i have been out of town, but that pic came from my engine bay, that is a greddy dual maf intake i think it was like 250 bucks from sp engineerring they had one in stock when i called, it is set up for twin z32 mafs hope this helps

First, REMOVE THAT HUGE a** PIC FROM YOUR SIG. Second, do you understand the fact the power FC's come in both MAP and MAF flavors? Simply suggesting the most well known aftermarket ecu as a soultion to a problem where people can't use the Z32 MAF which supports over 500rwhp because it's not big enough probably isn't going to be very helpful. Somebody talking about making 1000hp isn't going to be doing it with a SAFC. I'd bet he already has a MAF style Power FC and wants to stick with it since they are so expensive. I'm sure he has his reasons for not going D-jetro (MAP) power fc or something like a haltec or F-con V-pro.

Now hush, the grown-ups are talking.
...LMAO thanks for the advise but I do have the PFC .... The only problem is they dont make the d-jetro for the 25 .... and you hear from the pnut gallery that it's coming out soon but let me be the first to say it. It's not.... apexi has abandoned it the same way they discontinued the pfc for the 25 I will keep it as long as i can make 800whp (no nitrous)

i was interested in doing this on my rb, i found a svt maf that was rated to 1000 plus but they told me to take a hike b/c im a import

Not quite hotshot. You make some of the funniest posts ever.

Shouldn't need there help with anything. I can't tune, but from what I've seen my tuner buddy (Stec) back in Okinawa do, it was just a matter of figuring out the MAF voltage curve just like any 0-5v MAF. Also, you'll need to figure out what pin does what to wire it in, but there should only be a few pins to figure out (5v, ground, signal, etc.).

Yes, that is all you need to do and I know it will be cake to do with the PFC. Repinning/wiring will be easy too. The hard part is getting the voltage/air flow relationship correct. This winter I want to buy one of their large 4-inch MAFs, hook it up to a flow bench and figure out the voltage for given flows. I'll post the info all over the internet for imports just to piss them off

DO IT!!!

Seriously though, I'm no tuning expert (or even novice), but Stec figured mine out as we drove down the road. He made it idle, then had me step on the gas (while parked) and get it to "X" rpm higher and higher at about 500rpm intervals and rescaled the map doing that up to about 5k rpm to make it drivable. Then we went out and tuned, and he kept rescaling the curve. He only tweaked the fuel map when we were finishing up the WOT tuning, and his tunes kick a**.

the thought of this crossed my mind back before i went d-jetro.

in theory you could build an intake pipe with the original MAF and the SCT MAF in series, and log the voltages of both while driving around such that you have some comparable voltage numbers vs. airflow to extrapolate a best guess curve for the new maf. that would help, considering the PFC calculates airflow in a weird unit anyway.

The D-jetro does it in a weird way, but MAF is pretty straight forward.

Lol. I contacted SCT back when i had my SR and the guy i talked to was more than helpful to me. I told him what i had and the power i was looking for and he told me what i needed and then we started talking about his S13 he used to have. lol. I was asking him all kinds of questions of Blow Through setups and stuff like that. You must of just got someone having a bad day.

I have been running my Ford SVT MAF for about a year now. But I am using a tuned ECU from Jim Wolf Tech which they claim is capable of 700HP with the right turbo. The ECU is actually from a 91-94 Maxima that they flash for use with the RB.

It a great tune that I'm happy with just alittle rich at idle. So had to use S-AFC to clean it up a bit.

My new turbo setup I wanted to try and clean up the engine bay so I set it up as a blow though MAF. I'm not sure how well this is going to work with the JWT ECU and the S-AFC, but, I also have a PowerFC that I will try as backup. I have found a rough voltage map online for the SVT Maf so I'll give it a shot.

His name is Sean Jakober. Email is [email protected]. Last i talked to him was back in august i think. With the economy its hard to say if he still works there. An email would be worth a shot though.

Thanks Sean! It is exactly the information that I was looking for! I will post it a little later tonight

I just got to looking at the FC datalogit inputs and, no surprise, the PFC values for the MAF voltage vs. air flow are not intuitive. Does anyone know off-hand what the following "units" that Apexi uses are?

RB25DET MAF ____________________(0 to 5.12V) = (0 to 4423) unitsRB25DET MAF w/Apexi Power intake __(0 to 5.12V) = (0 to 4647) unitsZ32 MAF ________________________(0 to 5.12V) = (0 to 7546) unitsQ45 MAF ________________________(0 to 5.12V) = (0 to 6683) units"Custom" MAF ____________________(0 to 5.12V) = (0 to 10860) units

what kind of blow through tube are you using?? I found this that might help everyone if they dont allready know.....

Seems that you can bolt the lightning maf up to this blow through tube that eliminates the maf blowing up. might be a great alternative when using something like nistune..

why buy the tube when u can just buy the adapter to put on your own tube?http://www.vmptuning.com/store...&pg=1

You could accomplish the same thing with dual z32 mafs or a single maf and a bypass pipe the same size . Either way it sounds like a fun project.

Fellas. The easy part is finding a MAF or creating a MAF setup for measuring the increase in air flow.

The tricky part of this upgrade is properly telling the ECU how to interpret the voltage signal from the larger MAF sensor.

I have searched on the datalogit usergroup and have found no concrete answer on what units the powerFC uses for airflow units for the MAF. The internet is not turning anything up either. I e-mailed Ali at Apexi-usa but he apparently does not work for them anymore. I think I am just going to try contacting Apexi-usa to get a solid answer to this question tomorrow.

What air flow units are used in other EMS's?

The main issue is maf Linearization table, Once you can properly translate the airflow versus voltage. then all you really have to do is retune for the change in Theoretical pulse width.

Rb26 Maf translation

Lightning Maf translation
