yea, sorry. I should of been more exact on hatch/coupe. Hatches came with the 4x6, the coupe came with 6 1/2's (s13).

I have only heard a few sets of alpine subs, mostly cheap 12's and 10's but I have heard them get pretty damn loud. I gut in the db drag I was at had 2 12's and they were cranked up to like 130db, but they sounded like **** so I don't know, but those were my opinions.

whoa whoa....I'd replace rockford on your list and put Alpine. Those Type S 15's can boom, I should know. The Adire's Tempests can get pretty loud too. But...DD blows just about every 15" sub away in terms of SPL. I would've gotten one but I wanted something more a long the lines of an SPL/SQ compromise so I chose the IDMAX (give this thing 800watts and it'll make your ears bleed).

wow, first of all rockford's power edition dismantles every sub alpine has ever produced spl wise like the type s isnt even top of the line alpine. DD is very good but once you start talking about subs in that category it comes down to mostly install. for instance nebraska was talking about 2 12's putting down 130. if those are type r's then the install is really ****ty, if they where like type e's then thats a decent install.

Yeah, pioneer make a good HU. Only downside is that is a real complicated HU. They have a gazillion features which take a few hours to learn how to use them all.

Besides the complexity, Pioneer makes a good piece.

I particularly enjoy the Pioneer Premier line. I would say that they have the best line of head-units consistantly, but every once in a while another company (Clarion, Alpine, Eclipse...) comes out with a wonderful piece that gets one up on the competition.

I still think when it comes to headunits, no one comes close to Pioneers ideas, quality and looks!

I drive a 1995 S14 and the rear speakers are 6 1/2. How strange..

Anyhow, I haven't invested much into my system yet. I only have an unpowered pair of 12'' JL W3's sitting in my garage. Due to the limited trunk space of the S14, I think I'm going to change over to a bass tube instead of a box. A Rockford Fosgate 800x2 Punch amp to push the subs with a capacitor. MB Quart component system in the front and Infinity Kappas in the rear controlled by a CD/MP3 headunit I haven't decided on yet. Any Alpine V12 amp to power the speakers in the cabin. Then Monster Cables all around to finish it off.

I'm striving for something that'll sound clean and loud for my personal enjoyment. I just hate it when people roll up next to me at a stop light blasting their music. It's nice that they want to share to the public that they're big Eminem or Nsync fans, but it's freakin annoying.

i have a JVC KDSH909 mp3player head unit, clarion 6x9's in the doors with custom ziplock bags hot glued to the back so when rain leaks into my doors they dont get wet, and pioneer 6.5's in the back, all the interior speakers soon to be amped by my kenwood 350watt amp.

Man I want to get some good components, but with only 2.6inch clearance, that limits what I can put in. I'd like Alpine, JL or MB Quartz or something like that. I think that most of the woofers will be too big to fit in the doors and in the trunk.

i'm bored, so i'm diggin up threads like mad...

speaking of speaker configurations and measurements...

i measured out the largest possible box to fit in my 90' HB, and i got 6.2 CUBIC FEET... that's 37" wide x 26" long x 11" high nearest the hatch latch, and 14" high nearest the back seat...

that would be a good size for a Beyond Audio Inhuman or Digital Design 15"...but decided that was too big for my 12" Orion, so i downsized it to 4.1 cubic feet, which still effectively fills up my entire trunk...

Well after reading this 4 page long thread. Here are my thoughts. First about Sony. I don't like them because their head units break. The laser gives out very quickly as opposed to a lot of systems. But if you like sony then you can get the laser fixed. Pioneer makes the best head units. I am going to get the Pioneer DEH-P7500MP. That is the new one thats going to be coming out. If you do know about the Premier version I would like some info. I would like to know if the Premier version is worth it. My thoughts on subs. I haven't seen anybody say this by JL Audio W6v2. My system is sony xplode (thats how I know they suck), a 30 box with two eights and tweeters and speakers. This system was thrown in to replace the system that was stolen before I bought my 240.
