ever wonder what is going through nissans head right now.

lets see the killed off the sylvia (cmon they could have turboed the QR25 for an S16), and the new skyline is WHIMPY(no more RB engine, no more turbos, no more hicas, and it looks EXACTLY LIKE AN INFINITI G35).

well i guess at least now you can get a skyline in the US. just go pick up a G35 (its identical to the new skyline).

i just hope that nissan carries out its promise of a GTR model with twin turbos.

im guessing the sylvia was axed because it was probably considered to be too close in performance to the 350Z/Fairlady Z (and probably around the same price) and it seems that nissan has recently developed an aversion to turbos:(

so it seems now that subaru is the only japanese carmaker that pushes turbos anymore since the EVO is the only mitsu with a turbo.

hopefully garret can change a few minds since they are trying to push their new GT series turbos with the OEMs for use on production cars.

Nissan is all about the holy yen. Until they see people opting not to buy their products for other turboed vehicles they will not change course. :(

S I L V I A is how you spell it bro. but yeah nissan is all about saving money. At least Nissan of America is anyway. They are just recylig all their cars. the nissan muranga i think is what's it called and the infinite version. nissan z and g35 coupe. it's al recycled. It was said that nissan lost a lot of money due to the 300zx TT so they discontinued it along with the 240's. It was a bad time for Nissan. they were pretty much bankrupted!

G35=SkylineGTR will be its own model. One of the reasons the Silvia (SR and RB series engine mainly) was killed off was emissions and im sure sales of the 350Z. But there are talks of the 200SX returning. Maybe to the US even. Since all the car makers are having sport compact car wars, it would be smart of Nissan to join in. The Sentra V-Spec doesnt really cut it when put up against turbo neons, proteges, wrx's, lan evo, etc. So im sure a nice rwd coupe will sell well.

well the silvia(S15) is not completely dead.

i just looked at nissans aussie site and they still sell it in australia as the 200sx.

all the japanese companies are recycling their models

toyotas new scion line is just japanese commuter cubes.

the xA is just a LHD vitz hatch with a different interior (basicly just a hatch version of the echo which is also vitz based).

the xB is just a LHD version of toyotas little cubic microvan (dont know what its called)

both of em have the puny vitz/echo engine.

the 3rd model is supposed to be a cheaper matrix.

honda does it with acura. i dont see why they couldn't call the RSX the integra.

and of course toyota does it with lexus but at least with the IS300 we got the better end of the deal with the 2JZ-GE instead of the 3S-GE that the altezza gets

Sort of, they get boosted Altezzas in Japan. We get the big 2JZ because american love big motors and torque, plus would you buy a $40k+ Lexus with a 4 banger? turbo or not.

heck yeah(sorry you posted as i was typing my last msg).

i could easily see a smaller RWD coupe(maybe smaller than the S15 even) put the QR25 engine in it with a small turbo (a turbo QR could likely match the S15 SR20 in power maybe even more if they use one of the new GT series turbos).

price at or slightly below the celica and RSX and it will sell like hotcakes.

the GTR is probably the 450hp TT car that is rumored to be selling here starting in 05 (might be called the infiniti R35 - or better yet the nissan GTR)

did you see the new ones that are coming in like 2k4, 2k5? those things look bad ***. IS430 w/ possible supercharger w/ possible lil over 400hp, w/o SC the car reads 350hp...

oh they can get the 3S-GTE.

i would love to see a high performance version of the IS that runs the 2JZ-GTTE. theres a suggestion for lexus. heck even if only a limited edition (not like the supra sold in large #s could almost call that a limited edition).

i know people have already turboed IS300s effictively getting the 2JZ-GTE and a way to get your toyota turbo fix without trying to find a used supra turbo.

your right though the V-spec sentra doesn't cut it. if they engine were a little more rev happy and a little less undersquare it would be more fun even at the 175hp it puts out. Great transmission though despite the low/slow revving engine it has.

it would be even cooler if the sx came back and they finally decided to call it the silvia here in the US (dont see that one happening since i dont believe it was called the silvia outside of japan)

yes ive seen the IS430 in SCC. pretty nice.

supposedly toyota is working on a supra replacement. its supposed to be called the 5000GT, it will have a 5.0L version of the lexus/tundra V8, no power output #s yet but probably more than the 350Z, and the styling is supposed to look like a modern version of the 2000GT. and it will be sold in the US

the least Nissan can do here is have a turbo Vspec come out.

that would be nice. with the right prep i could see the QR series engines matching or even exceeding the SR20s.

you figure a block gaurd(its open deck as is the VQ), better valve springs (they are direct acting so no rockers like the SR has), and low compression pistons and you could have one nice turbo mill. the head probably outflows the SR20 head stock for stock (OEMs are realizing that more efficient engine design will give you lower emissions without extra emissions hardware).

i would expect any turbo versions to have a shorter stroke than the 2.5L used in the SE-R (the QR25s pistion speed is INSANE which could also make for a nice NA mill)

i didnt read all the post...but nissan is also joining the truck market, making their first full size truck, and trying to get some of that market also..i believe only 100,000 will be made...but the full size truck market is pretty flooded right now...so it will probrobly only cause them to lose more money.....

In a sense it is, as its all built on the same platform... If anything its not recycling but platform bastardization. Think of it like the good ole KA, bastardized beyond beliefe. It was used in 4 different classification of automobiles, the hard body then frontier, the Axxess a fugly 80's minivan (but it was offered in 4wd trim), the stanza and altima, and the 240.....

And I like how you (thread starter) seemed shocked that the G35 looked identical to the R35 or the lesser skyline base 2 and 4 door models, as it is. I just get a kick out of it because for somereason people (not saying you in particular) dont realize their is more to the skyline lineage then the GT-R, which is like compairing the NA z32 to the TT z32. Arent you glad we finally got the skyline in the states :) WOOHOOO

i hope nissan does get its head srewed on strait so we can see a predeccesor to the 240sx. The market is constantly changing and now performance seems to hold more weight with consumers than it once did. Hopefully nissan will realize this and start pumping out affordable compact RWD cars. They did it with the 350Z and their is no reason why they couldnt make a sports car priced under 25K, maybe even under 20K. Every other car manufacture is doing it...

I just pray they leave the coil on the strut in the rear if they do bring one out. Kinda hard to get coil-"overs" on a setup with the coil next to the shock hehe.

well most of their stuff is on the same platform now, which is how Nissan/infiniti are managing such awesome low MSRP's right now. That at the monstrous use of the new VG35. Personally I could care less, if it works stick wit it. :D

I also read that they want to enter the VERY cheap car arena, like the $10,000 area.In the end I still wish that they would bring the 240 back much like you guys. I can't afford the Z right now and the 240 just might get my attention instead...if they would even call it a 240

yes i knew that there was more to the skyline than the R32 and later GTR.

and yes it is nice that we finally got the skyline.

though i do know that the GTR model dated back over 30 years (and i know the GTR took a hiatus during the 80s).

i would love to have an early 70's GTR just as much as id love to have an R34 GTR

ahh sounds like what toyota is trying to do with the scion line(a whole line of cheaper cars built on cheap commuter car platforms but with a lot of standard equipment).

i dont see anything wrong with the VQ35. like the QR it is lighter and could have more potential than the engine(s) that it is replacing (ok maybe less potential than the RB but probably more than the VG).

i just hope that if the sx comes back that we get a turbo and that it remains a 4 cyl (i have a sneaking suspicion that the 3.0L or 2.5L VQ engine could find its way under the hood of a new sx which makes building up one a much more expensive proposition).

the QR is the SRs replacement. the SR probably couldn't meet stricter future emissions standards. the QR is a more modern design and likely a more efficient design than the SR. Im sure the QR could be turboed easily enough.

i could easily see a QR series engine with one of the new garret GT series turbos under the hood of an s16. could even see one under the hood of a sentra (maybe even add an AWD system at which point nissan would have a WRX/EVO competitor)

In case you all didnt know, last April, Nissan announced there 3 year plan, in which they stated that they will relieve themselves from debt and start to begin to make big profits with lots of new body changes and such.

3 year plan. how un-japanese. many japanese companies plan as much as 100 years into the future.

but at least nissan is making money again. they almost went belly-up a few years ago

I dunno, I guess so, I remember reading an article about their new ceo in Time, I think his name was Carlos Gohsn or something like that, and they said he supposedly saved the company. I know they're recylcing a lot of cars, but hey at least they brought back the z. I know, even though its almost identical to the G35 coupe, but I'd like to see honda do something like that. Seriously, someone's gonna have to keep up with the lancer evo.

Nissan turned a huge profit in 2002 which just ended(fiscally) I beleive. also i thought hte murano wasn't the g35/z chasis but the altima chasis with a rear drive train added on. Also the basic skyline has been only kinda cool for years(just like the g35 is) The gts and gtr are the sports- fun models. I think nissans formula is for the most part a turn in the right direction (except their maxima) I don't care for some of the styling but they aren't completely ruining things. The qr is a good potential motor but it is lacking some crucial design feature for a high power 4 cyl. the 3.5 six (vq?) is also a good motor but could use some refinements. However noone has ever built a perfect car (especaily at nissans price range)thats just my opinionbryce

its actually the other way around since when boost comes on more fuel is dumped and more air comes in and goes out. anyway, in Japan they dont have cat converters or egrs, etc. But i think in 2002 or for 2003 some law was passed for cleaner air or some crap. Plus the SR has been around for over 10 years and the RB close to it. It was time for a change anyway.

I agree, the QR is a nice little motor but its missing something, like top end. A turbo would fix that pretty quick and and make that pretty torque curve even better. The VQ is a great motor, its been praised many time by various magazine and enthusiast. But like the QR, it can use a turbo too.

another thing that could help the QR is to de-stroke it. drop it down to around 2.0L. then you would have a nice high revving engine.

i thought japanese cars use pretty much the same smog equipment as US and european cars but without the evaporative emissions equip (evap is US only).

i know european emissions standards are quite similar to US standards but are less strict about particulates and NOX(the two pollutants diesels are known for and you know how popular diesels are in europe) but stricter aobut CO2 (cars dont emit a lot of CO2 but its politically correct to regulate it).

oh and the QR is cheaper to produce than the SR, the real reason for the switch.

what other reason does nissan need, i guess the QR being cleaner than the SR could be a close second
