What is different about the New Maxima Motor that gives it 290hp?

Are they tuned differently or different parts or what? That's 20 more hp than we have and we could really use it.

Dual intakes: biggest part i'd say. Apart from that i'm sure theres a few minor things they do... Puhleeze, they could use the same motor and produce upwards of 310 with little or no cost if they wanted to. They detune cars so they fall into the right pricing place, but i guess thats fair... you get what you pay for.

By the way: I've test drove it and I think it might be JUST as good as the G37 (sedan) its a great drive, a long way apart from our crappy suspension.

They have CVTCS on both the intake and exhaust side. That and they need the extra 20 HP, they are heavier than us.

Does the new Maxima have the VQ35HR or the old VQ35DE?

i think i remember it being said that it has the VQ35DE but i'm not sure. also, i'm pretty sure it only has 1 intake. the engine bay looks almost the same as ours. i remember looking at my friends magazine (i think road & track?) and comparing it to my engine

Same tune from the 05 and 06 G35/350z. Its not a huge deal, that car needs the tune far more than our lighter cars.

Single intake, not dual.

the questions now is, what do we need to buy from http://www.courtesyparts.com/ to get 290hp

It maybe be a different intake manifold and exhaust components, but I doubt its much more than the ecu's tune.

Ever try this site?

I guess the question is whether the intake will work on the Altima or older-gen Maxima's. Note that they have redesigned the pistons as well. Per Nissan:

"In refining the award-winning VQ-series V6 for use in the new Maxima, engine development engineers focused on three areas – increasing air intake, increasing fuel burn efficiency and lowering exhaust backpressure. Steps utilized to improve air intake included increasing intake manifold collector port diameter, adding a second power valve in the intake manifold, changing intake collector material to resin for less mass and more flow, redesigning the shape of the intake valves and increasing the throttle chamber diameter. Fuel burn efficiency was improved by increasing the engine’s compression ratio to 10.6:1 (from 10.3:1), changing the piston shape for reduction of friction and weight, and adding exhaust-side continuous valve timing control (quad valve timing system). Exhaust backpressure was reduced through optimizing the exhaust system layout."

i was right, VQ35DE and single intake. ya i was actually comparing the pics of the maximas engine bay to my car's to see if the intake manifolds might LOOK interchangeable. we got intakes and exhausts for our cars, we just need a intake manifold, headers, and a tune lol
