I know this might sound like a goofy question but I'm not sure what 'abusive' would be in a high perf. car.

Ooooh sh*t...

I was born pre-programmed a musical genius, not a mechanical genius. Have some mercy.

Wait.. I'm guessing you guys were born knowing the answer to this question, correct?

I should clarify...

Before I bought this car and started 'studying' it I would have never allowed my rpm's to go over a certain level in my other cars unless I was in 5th gear and the speed warranted it. But then I start researching HP cars and I'm reading all kinds of things where people are talking about changing gears at the red line (obviously not all of the time) and 'pushing the car' being ok because "that's what it's made to do", etc. I realized that the two extremes had to be lopped off (drivers who just putt-putt around and drivers who push it as hard as they can all the time) and there would be a middle ground of what to reasonably expect out of these cars. Once that's established there has to be a 'line', of sorts, that delineates 'pushing it' and "dude, you're gonna ef up your car". I want to make sure I'm aware of where that is. I know what it means to abuse an economy car but somehow I doubt the Z would succumb to all of the same things.

Good question. In theory, I would think abuse would be standard across the board, just modified for certain vehicles.

not putting 91 or greater octane fuel in ithigh rpm (3-4k rpm) clutch dropsgoing to redline before engine is at operating tempnot changing oil (other fluids too) at prescribed intervalseating inside the carburnoutsimproper shifting technique - "speed" shiftinglugging around in 5th at 10-15mph

Stuff like that. The Z may be a high performance car, but that doesn't mean it is indestructable. High-performance and bullet proof don't always go together.

Any other suggestions?

musical genius you say...what do you play?

Anyways K03sport has it dead on tho. I would also say not taking care of the paint with moderately frequent cleanings or spraying off with water (monthly)...especially during high pollen season.using 91+ gas and fluids are prolly the biggest ones to pay attention to. can't just go up and fill up with regular or plus gas.

Thanks for the replies. My guess is that "speed shifting" is keeping the throttle open and slamming the shifter to the next gear and popping the clutch, correct?

As far as music is concerned, I'm a composer. I play a few instruments but composition has always been my thing. By the way, I use 'genius' very loosely in reference to myself. The best thing I was born with was tenacity... and the ability to fill diapers up to and over the edge with poop.

I rail on my 350z(track days, autox, drifting), but i still love it to death, i keep it in immaculate condition.

All of the following circumstances are qualified under "Nissan 350z abuse".......

1.Turning off traction control if you don't know what you are doing. (you know dam well if this is you, and don't tell me you learned how from watching "Tokyo Drift" either)

2.dented panels

3.s***ty paint job (esspically flat black rattle can, that's the worst!!)

4.cheep body kits(if you cant afford a legit body kit...DONT BUY ONE!)

5.Giant "ricer" spoilers (go buy Honda)

6.any rim size above 19" (you aren't driving a Cadillac, so you don't need D's on it)

7.Spray painted rims (again, you aren't driving a Honda)

8.Sponsor stickers up the sides of you doors, window banners, full car vinyls (if you track you car please disregard this statement)

9.cheap single din head units (you know, the 80$ ones from best buy)

10.Anything from pep boys/autozone (oil, coolant, breaks, filters, oem replacement parts are all OK)

11.Ebay catback/raspy tin can sound exhaust(if your a real Z owner you know what im talking about, its usually caused by test pipes)

you're an a$$hole.... the first time i saw this picture i had nightmares for a month because i have a white Z and i saw it right after i bought it, and now you've entered the image in my head as i am about to log off and go to bed.... dammit man! lol

As far as abuse goes, Yes you can drive it hard, it takes it well and you will feel it in your pants! Just take care of it. Keep it clean, maintained, and respect the power it does have or can get you in trouble...
