A couple years ago my RPM was dropping when I stopped at the lights. A couple times my car shut down. I ended up cleaning the MAF and she was working again.

Now it's happening again. I've cleaned the MAF just now, haven't gone for a drive yet. I'm also going to buy a new engine air filter.

But anyway how many RPMs should I get while idle? I'm getting about 600-700 RPM here in my driveway.

750rpm (+ or - 50) in P or N is what you should be getting if all is well with your sensors (MAF, IAT, ECT, O2), in addition to the TPS, its proper adjustment, and the IACV, along with its learned adjustment. 700rpm is at the low end, obviously. Dropping to 600rpm is too low, while in P or N. While in D at idle, your engine speed will drop a bit (50 - 100). If it's stalling while idling in drive, check the sensors, adjustments, and gas quality. Your '01 QX4 is very much the same as my '02 Pathfinder. Premium is recommended.

Check your TPS and its adjustment first and then go through the IACV relearn procedure. If all else is well, that will likely get your idle where it needs to be.

Here are the procedure steps for checking your TPS and its adjustment (starting on page EC-109). If adjustment is needed, reset your throttle position sensor idle position memory after the adjustment. (page EC-111) The idle air volume learning procedure is on page EC-58.
