It means that one or both of the Knock Sensors failed the startup test or the running continuity test and to protect the engine from unregisterable knock the ecu has decreased the ignition advance BELOW the regular grade gasoline setting...................which can cause sluggishness, surging, and decreased cruise fuel economy..................AND GLOBAL WARMING.

B= shorted or disconnected line pressure solenoid

1= short or discoed revolution sensor

From page AT45-AT48 in FSM

Why every own must retrieve [reacquire] the oem FSM that came with every Q45 of that era

Fail safe is 3rd gear, however B or 1 will cause problems alone together for sure you get fail safe.

Maybe just bad connectors coming off transmission or at TCU or combo of bad sensors and connectors who knows without following test proceedures in FSM.

How many miles on transmission beyond 100k design life. Actually it is 100,000 shift cycles.
