Brought the Z in for a little pre-summer maintenance that included a complete check-up/inspection of the car, ECU Diagnostic (using Nissan CONSULT-II) and the following:
- Injectors clean-up
- Spark plugs replacement
- Break Oil change
- Transmission and differential oil change
- Oil change (Mobil 1 5w30) & oil filter

As for the good news:
-My old VG30DE is still pulling strong, all cylinders between 160 and 165.

As for the bad news:
-The transmission's seal around the speed sensor is not yet leaking but pretty wet (the dealer didn't have this specific OEM seal in stock)
-The mid-pipes and the mufflers have several little holes in them due to rust (probably due to the accumulation of condensation during winter storage and the fact that they are 21 years old)
-Out of curiosity, since I was at the dealer I asked a quote for the complete 120K maintenance came at 1421 (781$ for parts and 640 for labor (8hrs at 80$)). While I can understand the 36% price mark up on the parts because I'm at the dealer (574 on conceptZperformance versuse 781 at the dealer) the 8 hours of labor is just too much. Doesn't it take like 4-6 hrs for this job?

Questions for my fellow Nico members:
-Is replacing the seal I mentioned above a big job?
-Where could I find new OEM mid-pipes and the mufflers (or close to OEM if they don't make them anymore). How much should this "cat-back" it cost me?
- How long should the 120k maintenance take to an experienced mechanic? The dealer's mechanic has a 300ZX and has been working on Z's since the S31 era. I'm pretty sure he knows the job is not 8hrs but since he his the dealer's employee...

Well for your mufflers: I found some on craigslist when i had to replace mine due to rust. I got them for $100 and i got OEM N/A downpipes, H-pipe and some no name mufflers. Other then looking on there, i have no idea where to get them unless someone on here has some they wouldn't mind parting with, though that'll give you an idea on price. GL!

Finally had another free night to work on the Z.

Since this pic I taped up the lower plenum and pulled one of the intake valve covers and cleaned it up and started to paint it, still have a long way to go with the deletes and such.

Some of the deletes were a pain with the motor OUT of the car. I can't even imagine doing it with the motor in the car, lol

Lol thankfully i had deleted the egr when I did my clutch awhile back so that's at least one I wont have to worry about this time around. a/c, prvr, carbon canister and water lines obviously are the big ones I am going for as well as relocate the power steering res to under the nose panel.

EGR removal leaving the pipes intact. Ok, one delete was a pain, lol. Point is, they're done. I never would have done them with the motor in the car, haha.

Been bored so I've been swapping mod stuff to the TT- Wheels/tires/GTR brakes and brake M/C brace so far. I painted the calipers black and rotor hats CRP for the TT.
Also the hood needed adjusting for squeaking and level and I've been smelling fumes from the rear hatch, so I found some nice small 3/16"X3/4" rubber weatherstrip at Home depot that looks like it belongs, and makes it pop open again nicely and seals out those exhaust fumes again.

I've been very frustrated at this misfire/tick/knock/hesitation/car gods hate of my car. One of my injectors Ohm tested at 221.2 Ohms, which i double checked with two multimeters. Also prepped to remove my intake plenum.

Be SURE to do the switched voltage mod when you do your injector work, it will keep your replacements much happier than the previous group...

Pulled the heads off the TT motor. Just waiting on some plugs and my Viton valve stem seals so I can send the heads off to the machinist to get the heads milled and he valve stems replaced.
Also disconnected the EFI harness from the blue devil, as well as the fuel lines. Only the tranny and coolant lines are left so we can pull the blown motor out.

I brought a spare plenum of mine to the machine shop today.

I am having them gasket match it to the lower intake and bore out the throttle body openings for the Z1 throttle bodies.

Unfortunately TT.net no longer carries the switched injector voltage mod as I found trying to link it to you, and I couldn't PM it to you, so PM me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail you the mod in a Word document as I have it saved.

Installed my fresh TT heads onto my NA block. The heads got milled nice and flat, coolant passages got repaired, Viton Supertech valve stem seals were installed, a full valve job was done, and 6 intake valves got replaced. My newly acquired JWT S1 cams will be installed tomorrow. Can't wait to feel how this NA motor feels.
Needless to say, this is probably the most work I've put into a motor ever. Putting in new headgaskets was a bit nerve racking.

New stuff under the hood.
Textured metallic anthracite plenum. Matte black throttle cable cover. Metallic black valve covers. Just mocking it up.
Yes... I know the TBs are dirty. I'll get around to cleaning them.

Elsewhere on the motor, RameyZ idler pulley studs installed. New idler pulleys installed. New tensioner installed. Cam sprockets installed (with new VTC springs and o-rings). Front crank seal replaced. New water pump installed. Water bypass outlets cleaned and installed. New crank sprocket installed as well.
Timing belt is on hold until I get some new lower plenum gaskets in. Can't put anything intake manifold related until that all comes in :/

I finally got around to removing the DS GTR rotor and caliper from the NA, and painted them to match the new color scheme for the TT.

I've decided to swap the Powertrix setup over to the TT, and will do it all next weekend I hope.
