I would like to check and see if the floor plans are close enough to the car that the J30 is based on that I could use a replacement carpet for that car for mine.

I have searched high and low for a company that has a carpet pattern for the J30 and no one has one that I have found. To get the original from Infiniti is probably going to be pushing $500 and that is a little spendy for rug, in my opinion...

Thanks,Gadget

Actually suspension, engine and brakes are based on 300ZX.

That might not help for carpeting purposes though. Its not a common car so aftermarket is thin.

The Japanese version was right side drive so the carpet/feet pads, etc would be reversed..............you either buy from Scottsdale Infiniti at 30% off list, find one at junkyard, or custom cut.

R&R a mistreated car is never cheap.

you should be able to find a carpet at a junkyard, or someone who is parting their J out. Might be hard to find the light tan or light grey in good confition though. (the black is hard to mess up permanently, unless floor matts arent used.)

Is the rest of the car unique to the J30? I though Nissan built all their Infiniti's off of other platforms, but with better materials.

Where is the best place to learn some of the history on the J. I have browsed the web but have not found anything with any good information so far.

Thanks,Gadget

its built off its own platform. it was designed at nissan's design studio in california. it was called the leopard J. ferie in japan.

look that up on google, there are a few sites, most in japanese.

one has a small english translated section, which highlights the differences between the US and JDM versions: engine choices, cupholder, grilles, spoilers, antennae, side markers, trunk release...etc.

as far as i know, thats about it.

carlos knology on here has a great J30 site with some specs.

So the susp, engine, brakes are from the 300zx and placed on a platform/chassis that is unrelated to the 2nd gen Max or 300ZX?

I just bought a '93 J30t, does this mean that brakes and suspension parts that fit the 300zx will bolt on? Also does the J30t have HICAS, or is that limited to the Q45a?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

earlier J30t models had the super hicas system, so yours should too.

suspension and brake parts are not interchangeable from the z32. (although some brake parts can be made to fit). 300zx has entirely different calipers and rotors both front and rear. the suspension resembles the parts on the 300zx, but it is scaled and the geometry is slightly different. i am nearly certain that no 2 suspension parts are the same between these models.

you are correct, the platform is dissimilar from the maxima and 300zx. remember, it is a small RWD sedan, nissan had no others at that time. nissan spent a hell of a lot in R&D for this unique car, clearly got little in the way of returns.

All the rear suspensions 90-01 Q/and J and 300zx and TT look the same but they don't measure the same due to differences in the rear track width [a 1/4" a 1/2" or more] ........also even all ther bushings are different hardness. The sways bars vary by up to 1.5" between the end link mounting holes not to mention different bends to match different exhausts.

Thanks for the info. I am thoroughly enjoying the car for now but need to do some suspension changes for sure it is pretty worn out. 111K on the odometer.

I have decided against changing out the carpet, I ordered new floor mats and am going to try and clean the spots on the carpet as best as I can. You can't really see them with new mats in anyway...

Should I use a stock Infiniti replacement part (through Joe @ Scottsdale) or is there aftermarket parts that work better for struts and tension rods?

What about replacing bushings or springs..?

i dont think there are any options besides OEM for tension rods.

do a search here to see which struts others have used. (i think koni yellows have been used, there are part #s floating around on here)
