Now I am this....

Ok, Eyor has been sitting for some time now. About a year, started him up and after I realized I was out of gas, he started right up. After warming the engine a bit, I killed him to check some fluids. After that he wouldn't start up. Two weeks of tinkering in my spare time, replacing the distributor entirely, and all this to no avail, I find out what will make him start.

I need to know why this works, and what I can do to not have to rig it. Pictures...

This is my orignal distributor, and I was thinking that the lift module had gone bad.

I know that these pictures might not be very clear. But any general guidance would be helpful.
I really want to know what all i can delete from the electrical system (if anything) because my goal is to strip Eyor down to the very bare essentials.

This is the one that replaced it. Came off an 83 z24 model motor I think. Mine is an 82 z22 I believe.

Now the main question is what is
1. The fourth wire for and how should I integrate it into my system. (The one that is different is white in color and labeled "C" while the rest are "E" "I" and "G" (Anyone know what that stands for?)
2. What is this little block for that is shown in the picture below can anyone explain to me the dual coils and how that system works.
3. Why is it that the only way now I can get Eyor to start (currently) is to run a hot wire off the battery and hook it directly to the middle terminal connection on the three terminal block shown below?
4. Does hooking a direct power wire to the middle terminal have any detrimental effects? I have no experience with these trucks to speak of or electrical system to be honest.

Try connecting a wire from the key when its in the on position to the coils.

Ok so I answered all my own questions today. I just ripped everything out (Dash and entire wire harness) and started from scratch so that I just had the basics to get him running. Here is a video of what I ended up with.

Now that you see where I am, I need some help. I am going to try and fab up some fenders for the front and back and a dash pannel for a couple of gauges. I will also fix the holes in the floor board.
What I need from yall is some ideas for the dash panel (how to make, what to include as far as gauges, and how big long, and type of material) I am on a budget, like i have to use stuff laying around... hahaha so don't go crazy, but if you have seen pictures on the net, please link them so that I can get an idea to work with.

Thanks!
