weird smell

I have noticed few times very weird smell comming through the vents..it smells like burnt metal or plastic. It appears and lasts only for like 2-3 minutes and than it's gone. I stopped once, opened the hood to check it and i found nothing...but it always smells the same. I was suspecting my in-cabin filter not working right so i changed it, but the smell comes and goes. Has anyone had something similar going on??

well... if you have a 6speed... you may not want to ride the clutch so much =p

with or without your a/c on?

I notice that when I turn off the a/c, it smells for about 2-3 mins and it smells like my wife's stinky socks..... but like my wife, it goes away...lol

if that is it, then you need to get a spray to clean the stuff inside the vents.

My Versa is two weeks old and I experience the same thing now and then. I do not believe in my case that it has any thing to do with the clutch. It smells like an electrical component is overheating. It occurs mainly after the car is parked overnight.

I think its an alright smell, I get that when I turn on my heater or AC meh I dont pay attntion to it since the smell goes away.

Mine smells sometimes.

If i have the a/c on, then the shut it off and switch to the vent. then it smells. It just randomly does it.

Well..the smell comes on with air condition OFF especially when driven on a highway...seems like break pads burning or something. I didnt notice anything different in braking or car performance, but smell comes very rarely and goes. When i turn the AC on it does get that "dampy"smell you guys talk about, but this goes away in a min or so..but the smell i'm talking about it's more like burnt metal tho...anyways thanks for your thoughs guys!I'll just keep on driving and keep an eye on it..i mean nose!cheers:)
