I was waxing Max for the first time when I noticed a couple of what looked like little specks of tree sap or something on the paint. Basically a little raised bump that was gooey on the inside. Once it came off, there was a little round, rust colored dot underneath, about 1mm across. It doesn't appear to be rust, since it's not rough at all. I can't feel any difference between the dot and the paint surface, and not even a clay bar will take it off. Also, they're both in places that aren't usually hit by rocks. One is over the driver's side door, and the other is on the driver's side fender, just over the wheel well.
There's a couple of pine trees at my work that sometimes drip sap, and I had some dripping on my Corolla, but it never caused any isses with the paint on the car. None of the other cars that park in the same driveway at home have this problem either.
They aren't rock chips, of that I'm sure. I showed them to one of the service department employees at the local dealer, and he was mystified as well.
