I keep getting a banner on this site that advertises a $40,000 Volvo?

I think that is money not very well spent!

Some of the ads on the site are regional ads provided by google, rather than specific sponsors of the site.

I keep getting a local Toyota dealership popping up.

As I was reading this post the ad was for a GMC Sierra Truck. Like EV said, its google ad serving. The google bots parse the content of the pages on the site to know that it is a car forum and then it will server car related ads. In my experience with google adwords the categories are fairly broad. ie, cars as opposed to nissan cars, and travel as opposed to travel to ____

One nice thing is that google tracks which ads are clicked on a site by site basis. So, eventually, it will stop serving the ads that no one clicks on.

Your pop-up blocker stops ads from being served on the pages that you visit?

The ads that we are referring to are the areas highlighted in orange...

OH Thats what you guys are talking about! HAHA my bad. Man, I guess my brain is working slow today. (Friday)

I see a couple ads on the side, but the ones on top only says "NICO STORE Official Gear". I post up a pic of it when I get home. Work computers kinda restrict where I go on the internet. (Photobucket, etc.) But it looks the same on my personal computer too.

I use Firefox with Adblock. I just loaded the same page with IE and found 15 ads on this page that I don't see with Firefox. But I'm sure NICO wouldn't want all of us skipping the ads if they keep the site running!

I use Firefox as well but havent heard of the Adblock thing. Is it an option with Firefox or is it something you have to download.

or you can google, "Adblock Plus" and the "Filterset G Updater"

It adds new adds every week, I never see any on the internet... it helps browsing on my laptop's 12" screen.

I don't know how "regional" the advertisements are. I keep getting one for Infinity out in Arizona. I'm in Florida with a Florida area IP.

That can happen if you're with a national ISP, since they almost always address IPs dynamically. At home I get ads occasionally for a Texas Nissan dealer, but at work I get ONLY seattle-based stuff (we have our own T1 at work)

That's what's weird. I'm at work right now and we have a DS3 with a southeast regional IP (I know because I'm actually the IT Project Manager for this company). So I dunno. . .unless it's being routed weird on the backend. I never really bothered to check at home...mainly because I guess I'm always here or on the road. lol. My dog and fiance' forget what I look like sometimes.

Aw, the dog never forgets. That's why they're so great... they're always SO happy that you're home.

The woman, on the other hand... they're not always happy you're home... hehehe

LOL, you say that. She is a 60lbs. black lab (the dog, not my fiance). I was gone pretty much almost a month and my flight got in late and I didn't walk in the door till about 2 am. My dog almost bit my head off until she finally realized it was me.

OK, that's just because she's a Lab, and has lab-for-brains.

My dog Shrek (not the one picture in my avatar) is a half Australian Shepherd, half Black Lab mix. He's raised his hackles at me before when I've come in, just because he was asleep and I startled him. Of course, as his hackles were up, he was wagging his tail furiously.

Only 60 pounds? Lucky you. Our 5 month old Lab Retriever [fox red] is 49 pounds . . . heading for at least 80, probably 90.

Puppy training is working -- we do almost everything it wants.

She's a lab/chow mix . . .has a spotted tongue. I call her the "Apartment Size Lab". Doggy training worked really well for us too. She definately has "lab-for-brains" but is a very loyal dog. She has the personality of Donkey from Shrek. She doesn't bark but always seems to be talking somehow when she is looking at you.
