I did a search and couldn't find anyone who has posted what their car weighs with a KA-T setup, and it got me thinking. I have put this thread in the other motor forums. It would be kind of cool to see what the real difference between SR's, CA's, and RB's swapped into S-chassis. Maybe this way we can get this info covered once and for all in one place.

Thanks for the help!

Let's do it like this... if anyone is willing to drive to a truck stop or if they have access to scales. Someone with the following equipment:

List if S13 (coupe or hatch) or S14, Turbo motor, 1/2 tank gas, no significant body mods, back seat still installed, FMIC, and list anything removed.

i know that a few years back Sport Compact Car covered a sr swap into a s13 and listed the weight differences of the different motors. it wasnt much, less than 10lbs between the SR and KA (de). if i get bored on my drive home ill consider stopping, but i wouldnt put money on it.

I would like to see the weight diff in the car with full engine/trans fluids and similar/same equipment. Just for a 1 to 1 comparison.

from numerous sources I read that the KA24DE with transmission weighed 520lbs, then the SR weighed 100lbs less with transmission and the CA weighed 40 lbs less than the SR so if my math is correct the CA with transmission weighs 380lbs and I believe this is accurate b/c me and my friend can lift the CA with our bare hands from the ground to a S10 truck bed.

I know a bare CA block has got to be CONSIDERABLLY less weight than a KA block. I can pick up a bare CA block w/one hand no problem. I don't think I could do it with one hand on my KA block. I could do it by myself, but it was a chore. Adding internals would make it considerabally worse.

This is what i thought... but it would be nice to have some figures that show the weight of the car equipped with each motor to see what people are really rolling around with... I would weigh mine but I have coilovers, seats, no back seat etc... not something every other person could compare their car to...

a bare CA block with only oil squirters weighs in @ 78 lbs (which is why i couldnt ship one of my blocks normally, i had to bring it on the plane with me (only $90 for an extra, overweight bag, as opposed to $700 to fedex.. USPS wont touch anything over 70 lbs from overseas)

lol @ taking it on the plane

my prokits in front after the swap have stock ride height now, so the car always looks like its leaning back..

the CA is much lighter than the KA, even after adding in all the extra IC piping and turbo etc

I saw the owner of my local tune shop carry a RB26 short block (w/internals) into the back of an Isusu Trooper... he won a 100 bet from the owner of the engine.

I remember my hatch being 2750 when it was stock with a SOHC ka I don't remember how much gas I had at the time though. I have since added JDM bumpers, silvia front, and the CA so I will go weigh it this weekend now that you brought it up.

When Boost_Boy shipped me my CA18DET, it was listed at 450lbs. I weighed it on a huge industrial scale when I got it, and the pallete, plastic wrap, engine, transmission, and a few metal bands to secure it during shipping, all weighed 450lbs. Of course like an idiot, I forgot to weigh the pallete itself afterwards XD

I know my motor weighs less then that b/c I removed EVERYTHING that isnt necessary. Only have the bare essentials.

OK, here ya go. -S13 Coupe-Stock Silvia conversion-Most of the interior installed(no carpet and some misc stuff)-No drivers or passengers-1/4 of a Tank of gas-FMIC, steel piping-3"turbo back exhaust (weighs less than stock)-Lightweight flywheel (13lbs-stock = 25-27lbs)-NO A/C (including the evaporator)

And the info you all REALLY WANT.........

2540lbs! It's actually less than I was expecting. I hope that's all the info you wanted.

So call it 2650 for a concervitive non weight reduced 1/2 tank version of your car... definitely a good starting point. Thank you very much!
