nope, vlsd and lsd are similar but not the same. the viscous uses fluid to "lock up", it takes time to warm up and will slip under hi load or extended use. a 1-way lsd uses clutches and locks up very quickly and will hold under the most extreme pressures but will let go on sudden throttle release. i hate myself for what im about to say but w***pedia has a good article on the limited slip differential. dont believe everything you read there.

What does "1 way" mean? Like, if I run in reverse, it won't lock up?

Also, are you saying the VLSD will slowly turn into an open differential over time after beating on it?

When you say "clutch", are you talking about the clutch in the manual transmission, or is there some sort of another clutch in the lsd system?

Thanks. I'm just trying to get an understanding of what I'm reading. Otherwise, why read.

Theres some good info on Wikipedia. There is a ton of info on the different types of LSD. Viscous limited slip, helical LSD, and clutch LSD (which is where you get your 1.0 1.5 2 way LSD)

Yeah, thanks. I just read that on wikipedia :) Good stuff. Sadly, it does look like my vlsd will go toward an open diff with wear and tear :( It didn't mention if the R200V was 1 way or not though. It explained what they were, which was nice.

That's because the clutch style is rated that way. The viscous is pretty much a one way. Add one shim it will act as a 1.5 way add 2 shims its like a 2 way although with my experience. Too many shims = a whiny rear end. Also I've seen the viscous section sold for less than 100.00 bucks if it does start to get tired.

Jack up the a** end so both tires are off the ground. Grab a tire and spin it. If both tires go the same direction its LSD. If they spin the opposite of each other its open end.

Speaking of walking sideways..... has anyone heard of installing a button on the shifter knob that locks the front brakes so you can spin your wheels. I hear these are used in burnout competitions. If so, how do/would they work? I'm not well versed in the brake systems. I know that the calipers squeeze around the rotors. That's about it, lol.
