If the plates are gone from the driver side door and under the hood then check the frame. My vin was stamped into the frame on the passenger side top of the frame. Lift the hood and you should be able to look right at it. (right next to the alternator)

Thanks for the info. I found the Vin#. it was on the alt side on the frame. I also found a bunch of melted wires. I took all the factory tape off and rewired the whole harness. I spent all day Saturday on that.

But; If you wouldn't have given me that tidbit on thr frame, I never would have found the other problem. Thanks twjr_85

I bought this 620 off of a guy. for $100.oo last monday. and i figure on putting another $500.oo into it. And then i'll have a nice truck.

I now where their are (2) two more of these 620 models, A person can get pretty cheap.  Probably about 4 or 5 Hundred for both.

Yeah my wiring harness was melted too. Instead of rewiring it though I bought a '79 and used the wiring harness from it so I could have electronic ignition and go to an internal regulator alternator. Good luck with the truck!

You know where Ellecot is?  there is a junk yard there with some 620 in it and I am sure there is  bumper on one of them.  If you look at the pictures in the hread (kid in a candy store) you can see the bumper.
