Hi, I've searched this forum and Google for hours and hours and still not sure of a solution. I need your kind help. I put LED bulb into dome/room lamp with battery hooked up and blew fuse. Next time I drove I couldn't shift out of or into park. Brake lights work but no click from solenoid. All interior lights out except glovebox. Open door and trunk warning lights on. Key must be on to open trunk inside car and to use key fob to open trunk and lock/unlock doors. All fuses fine and power to both sides of solenoid. Possible issue/s: shift lock/interlock solenoid? shift lock relay? shift lock control unit? Smart entrance control unit? I don't even know if the shift and lights problem is one issue or 2.
I'm mid-70's woman inexperienced with cars and have a handyman who can replace solenoid etc. I'd like to know the right part numbers and not pay $250+. FSM is overwhelming.
The little tab is secured so I can shift without screwdriver but I'd like it to be fixed right and have interior lights. It's got 203,000 miles, looks good and been serviced on schedule. I hope to pass 250,000 miles. If necessary I will take it to local mechanic, but would like to be knowledgeable enough to not be ripped off.
Thanks for reading this far! I hope you can help!

Did you check your fuses with a test lamp, or visually? Visual doesn't tell you very much. Fuse #13 in the cabin fusebox is labeled "Shift Lock" but it also powers a crapload of other stuff, including a lot of circuits in the SEC. It's a battery fuse and should have constant power.

Cheap test lamps cost $5~10 and will tell you not only whether a fuse is good, but whether it has power and the circuit is healthy. To use one, put the gator clip on a good ground and then stick the probe end on whatever you want to test. With a fuse, there are four possible results:
Both sides light - Fuse and circuit are both healthy
Both sides light dimly - Fuse is good but the circuit has resistance
One side lights - Fuse is blown
Neither side lights - Fuse has no power

Yes we did but we'll test again. Thank you!

Fuses still test fine. Would a missing bulb cause other lights and shift lock not to work?

No. You're going to have to trace one of the circuits to ground and back to the source to see where the problem is. Assuming it's a common cause, tracing any one of them should lead you to it.

I'd start with the room lamp, since that's where your issue began. You can find the wiring diagram starting on EL-96 here:
https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 2%2FEL.pdf

Make sure the SEC has good battery, ignition, and ground (first page) and then see whether the BATTERY SAVER output on the SEC has power (second page). It should go hot as soon as you open or close a door. If not, you probably blew the SEC. If that has power then it means the ROOM LAMP output is fried and can't ground the lamps, which also means the SEC is blown.

It's time for me to find mechanic, and your input will help me very much in discussing the issue. Thank you very much!

You're most welcome. A pro will probably have access to Alldata or Identifix for wiring diagrams, but don't forget you can direct him to the Nico library if not. Good luck with it.
