Well to update, I have replaced the timing chain. Cleaned the engine thoroughly, and ready to drop it back in.

just as a caution, thats exactly where my downpipe hung and I thought it wasn't that low... it got the crap dented out of it just from everyday driving (parking lot ramps, speed bumps, etc).

impressive fabrication though

Thanks for the compliments.

As far as the hanging to low, I have a big oil pan in front that should block anything from hitting my headers, HAHAHHAHA

Oh wow. No replacement for displacement I guess. The valve covers look awesome. I will definitely be watching this thread.

Well I was in the air of what to do...but I guess I should just go ahead and do it. I just got an S14, needs exhaust, and I have a perfectly good Q45....How much would you charge to make me those motor mounts and headers? Also would I be able to retain the auto for now (the 240 is also an auto and it would be a cool "quick"(read as cheap as possible, don't want to adapt Z32 trans yet) swap...just pull KA24 and trans and install Vh and trans in it's place) or would the new mounting interfere with trans/starter mounting? Thx for any suggestions...

I spent many weeks going over the Q45 wiring system and managed to come up with a plan on which wires should be powered up to get the system to work. I alos used the 94 downloaded manual, but found that several connectors were different colours and routed differently then my 92. If you want I could send you a jpg of the Smartdraw plan I made up for the 450Z wiring. You can see a snap shot on my cardomain website http://www.cardomain.com/ride/563982

Heres the latest progress.

Custom making a few things, the transmission will be here next week, so I'm putting the motor back in the car to get the rest of the stuff ready.

Water pump block off plate for electric water pump

Motor on the hoist about to go in

My first attempt at welding aluminum, dont laugh... Seriously. For remote oil filter mount

Back view

12 lb chrome moly flywheel

-16 AN fittings for water lines, two in, two out

Here it is back in again after powder coating and cleaning

Those headers are NICE! The engine looks amazing.

Is that an adapter plate on the engine?

Good job with the aluminum. I have about 6 months doing aluminum and I can get it consistent when doing flat beads. Welding around things like tubing and such is tricky but a gas lens and lots of tungsten stick out help a lot.

i love your WP block off plate, do you think that you could have saved cash on fittings tho by going with a non-inline pump and just making it fit the stock location as was mentioned somewhere ^ up there?

I did this with a mig, i wish i had a tig lol. I may buy one in the next few months one I decide to fabricate the manifolds for the Individual throttle bodies.

Well, I wouldnt know where to start with that one. Some sort of cnc adapter would definitly be nescacry. These extra fittings and hose only cost me 150.00. Its not that bad since I already have about 900.00 dollars in hose and fittings on this motor, and i still have a few to go.

I've never tried aluminum with mig. I'm used to controlling all the variables my self so it would be hard for me. It looks clean though, I didn't know migged aluminum could look like that.

Since I'm still waiting for the transmission getting some other stuff buttoned up.

Oil catch can, still have to put in the breathers, ill just pick up some little k&n filters.

Had a friend tig up the fitting for the water pump block off.

Heres the Trust oil filter block, no oil cooler yet *

For the love of god please do not use a FRAM filter!!!

I've been warned by several race engine builders now that these filters are ****house, the filter cores break down under the high oil pressure loads that are pushed through them resulting in starvation issues amongst other things!

I've been advised that ryco filters (ryko?) cause no such problems.

Other than that... nice work! Do you really think an oil catch can is necessary ?

Yea, ive heard the same thing. Im not using it this is just a throw a way so i can flush it out after like 20 miles or so. Just in case any dirt and dust that got inside when the engine was open.

I got some new nissan oil filters on the way.

As far as whether its nescary or not, I think so. This motor will probably spend a lot of time at or near redline, and i know theres gonna be a lot of oil vapor floating around. I spent a whole day cleaning out the intake manifold, i dont want it going back in lol. besides it looks cool:)

FYI

Everyone the adapter plate is done

The shop made four more of them

Price will be 475.00 plus shipping both ways

Thats for the plate, machining your bellhousing and hardware. Its made to work with the 300zx clutch , flywheel, and starter.

I should have it tommorow, pics coming soon.

For those adapter plates...

Does your motor or your transmission have to be milled down, and then the adapter plate welded on where the old bolts used to be?

If anyone can directly explain how the adapters work that would be awesome - I never quite get it :P

The transmission has to be milled down, no welding is performed at all. The plate bolts the the engine, then the transmission to the plate. Its pretty simple, just how it looks in the pictures.

maybe i am just not seeing it, but on the lower portion of the bell housing, the part that isn't milled down, what goes there to prevent dirt and other crap from getting inside?

you could just take a peice of sheet metal and make an inspection plate to bolt to the lower bolts.. roll some beads in it and there you go... that adapter looks alot like the one for the ka motor to a 300z transmission.. man i wish i had money again...
