Do you have a wideband installed? That would be my main concern...going lean. If you can watch it and know for sure that your mods on the fuel pump and regulator are working I would feel pretty safe.

If you aren't seeing any detonation on your test runs or particularly on the dyno I think you should be in good shape. At that speed and for short runs I don't think it'll get too hot or "heat soaked".

Really looking forward to seeing some videos, dyno and standing mile runs! Good luck!

yea i have a wideband hooked up, as for detonation, the damn car is so loud i cant hear a thing so i cant really tell.

I figured it wouldnt be a problem, but i waned a few opionions. Im hoping for 160-170 mph, i may fall short though, or take flight.

I'm going to try and blow the Z up, that way I have an excuse to go buy a car with a/c. WTF was I thinking bringing this b**** down here? I swear it feels like it's 110 today.

If I don't blow the Vh and you need a ride home I have a backseat. If mine blows and you're doesn't get airborne it looks like I'm screwed. lol

You're bringing the HERO right?

That graph is very rough after peak torque for the smoothing to be on 5. AF looks rock solid, too much or too little timing? Regardless, nice area under the torque curve, and good power.

posting from a friends account....

well the car made it through its first drift event, unfortunatly the act cluch did not . Changing it out right now, took me all day to find a 6 puck to put in the car.

Get a South Bend clutch! I couldn't be happier with mine. It drives sooo smooth and it's supposed to be good for 480 lb-ft. Of course they have like 8 levels above mine.

well we ended up taking a 6 puck spec clutch out of a friends z32 twin turbo, for me to "borrow" for the race. I guess ill have to replace it or something, the clutch is supposedly good for 530 ft lbs of tq, should be over kill for now.

Anyway the act had a broken diagphram somehow, thats why it didnt hold i guess, clutch was purchased brand new with less than 500 miles (albeit abused miles but whatever).

Well the spec is holding and all i can say is damn, this thing is now brutal, it will blow the brand new rs2 315s in third with little trouble.

Anyway enough ranting, i have to get the car back on the trailer in 4 hrs, hoping for 170mph standing mile and the car and me making it home safely of course.

Wish me luck, vids and such coming soon.

In the mean time here is the dyno vid.

Here's a good link to the DXD clutches. I'm only running their TZ stage 2 but it drives as smooth as stock but you you know it will HOOK UP if you let it out too fast. My burnout videos were taken with like 10 miles on the clutch (no break in) and it still works great.

http://www.z31parts.com/drivetrain.html

You should look at the stage 6! Not sure if anyone else is doing clutches like this that will fit our cars but it's a modified 350Z pressure plate that has a lot more clamping force with only a slight increase in pedal firmness. Jason @ Z31 parts was where I got mine and was super helpful in deciding which one.

Guys at South Bend were super helpful too. I got oil all over my brand new friction disc and they offered to replace the friction material for cheap instead of making me buy a new clutch.

Worth a shot if you're looking anyway!

With that kind of torque you should look into getting a twin disc setup. That will hold anything you throw at it and with the increased surface area, it allows a smoother engagement with good capacity.

finally got the files off of my old computer..

thought i would post this up, for comparison.

Stock 5 speed vh45de, intake, headers and exhaust untuned.vsvortech supercharged vh45de headers and exhaust @ 6 psi.

still needs more timing up top imo...

thats pretty impressive that you gained that much power even at 3500 RPM, IMO looks like a better tune is in order to get that curve a little smoother, but may not be possible? Still 286 HP on a stock VH including the ECU is nice.. I assume both of these runs were done on the same dyno?

ITS FAST!!!!

5.114 volts on the maf cant possibly be good right?? lol, it hits that in 3rd gear at 7000rpm. Sigh.. more money to be spent now... or i cant try moving the maf around as i find it hard to believe im making 450whp.

Anyway heres a timing log 2nd gear pull to redline, big props to steve, as the tune he gave me seems to be pretty spot on for a base to start from.

Two questions -

Do you have a datalog from your engine management software of your dyno run, if not, what sort of advance are you running at torque peak and then at redline?

Second, what units are those across the top of your timing map? (the ones going from 8 to 113)

The numbers across the top are TP... essentially Nissan's verbiage for Load.

Do you know how it calculates it by chance?

AFAIK, no one has cracked the exact formula for how the Nissan ECU calculates load. I can give you an idea of how it is calculated on other platforms, and I'm willing to bet Nissan uses a very similar strategy.

I hope you're familiar with volumetric efficiency. It is the percentage of airflow, theoretical versus actual.

The ECU is preprogrammed with this data, and since the ECU knows what the ACTUAL airflow is via the MAF, the ratio of theoretical max airflow to actual airflow is the load. On other platforms, this is calculated per engine revolution and shown as grams/rev, and the load value actually represents grams per revolution of airflow.

Jerry, let me know when you upgrade your injectors. I think one or two of mine are jacked up, I think the shaking I have is related.

I ran a guy at work during lunch last week, 300 SRT-8, basically the Z is about as fast, maybe a tiny bit slower. He pulls me but barely. I was impressed. After the runs the VH was running about 1500 rpms and wouldn't come back down. Either an injector is clogged, stuck or something, smells real rich especially in the morning. Lemme know...

I've got some spare phase 2 injectors if you need them...
