VG30 Cold start / low idle issue

I have an '87 Maxima that doesn't seem to act correctly on start up. Shouldn't it do a fast idle for a minute or so after first starting? Mine will start but run at very low rpm (sometimes stall) for a minute or so. Once it gets through the warm up period the idle comes up 150 - 200 rpm and it has much better throttle response. I just replaced a piston and rod, and had both heads done as a result of a Timing Belt tensioner failure. I can't find any vacuum leaks and was wondering what a more experienced person would recommend.

You might try cleaning out the idle air control valve. That is most likely causing your idle problems.
