Very Rough Idle with AC On

Please be easy, this is my first time blogging.

I have a 1996 200SX the runs fine when the AC is off. When the AC is turned on, it idles very rough and will die (like a bad vacuum leak). When the car is cold and the choke is working the car runs fine with the AC on, only when it warms up does it start to idle very rough. The check engine light is on, but when I used a generic code reader it wouldn't give me a code, it just gave and error message.

Anyone had this problem?

Actually, No I haven't. It idles perfectly without the Air Conditioning on. When you turn the air on it idles very roughly and eventually dies.I didn't think that the normal idle adjustment would cause this problem.

Any other suggestions?

in most modern cars, there is an electronic gadget that rev-up the rpm when the ac is turned on. clearly in your case, it has gone dead - assuming you did not mess up the wirings or tuning prior to the incident.

it is a simple fix for the mechanic.
