Versa sunroof?

I ordered a new Versa Monday, which the dealer said would be a 2-3 month wait. I wanted the sunroof, and was told that they weren't even in production yet - they would be arriving around February. I let myself be convinced that an aftermarket sunroof would be just the same as the factory installed one.

Now, I'm not sure. Has anyone seen the factory installed sunroof? I'd like to know whether it is an interior type "moonroof" that retracts between the headliner & roof panel, leaving a full opening, or a spoiler type sunroof. I haven't been able to find a picture of a Versa with an open sunroof either, which would answer my question.

I have a dealer installed moonroof, which has been great thus far. It has withstood the heavy rain here over the last few days, which alleviated concerns I had about getting an aftermarket sunroof, and looks good, though I would have liked to have the controls placed in a different location than where they are (right in front of the sunvisor on the driver's side). The moonroof opens fully, in the "vent" position, and any stage in between, whereas the stock sunroof I've been told doesn't. Plus, a sunroof is never as cool as a moonroof, unless the moonroof doesn't open open up like a sunroof, which isn't the case with mine, so that's a moot issue... Good luck!

You got yours intalled by your Nissan dealer? Cool! How much did they charge?

They wanted to charge $1250, but I managed to get it installed for $700, the same price as the sunroof Nissan offers, no doubt because I paid for the car cash.

Do you have any pics of the sunroof? I would like some inside and outside shots to look at.

I will try to borrow somebody's camera and put some pics up tomorrow, but I can't promise anything. Note, the one I have was put in by a specific aftermarket company the dealer works with, so it isn't necessarily the one other aftermarket companies you find would install.

I have a Versa SL with CVT and the factory installed Sunroof. It was NOT ordered and was at the dealer for a little over 24 hours before I purchased it. It is a dual opening design, with an interior roof lining piece that manual slides back and a 2-way rocker switch. One switch side - the sunroof slides open about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way back (open), the other switch side raises the rear of the sunroof glass a couple of inches - so it does both.

Do you have any interior/exterior pics of your sunroof?

My aftermarket moonroof is the same, with the sliding panel or whatever, but doesn't have the 2/3 or 3/4 opening set. I have three buttons, one pushing up the rear, like yours, and the other sliding the roof back fully into the rear of the car above the back seats (it's not a spoiler type roof). The third button lets me open the roof any stage in between. Now all I've got to do is get the remote starter installed and the foglights, then the interior carpet replaced (in black).

Oooh, nice!

I have a black Versa SL on order, with the sunroof. However, the dealer told me that the factory isn't producing these yet, and I should expect to get the vehicle around February.

Lucky you. I'm going to call my dealer again and see what the story is...

Yes, I did indeed get lucky. I did not have this Blue Onyx SL on order. I was mainly looking for an SL CVT in one of the two Blue colors or white, and while I like sunroofs - as I had not seen a Versa with one, it was not a requirement. I happened to call a dealer on a Monday and this was one of two Versas that had just been unloaded from the trailer & had not been entered in the dealer's on-line inventory yet. Tuesday I had a new car!

Looks exactly like mine, only the handle on the sliding interior piece has the manufacturer's name on it. I get looks from other Versa owners when they see my sunroof vented... since sunroofs aren't yet officially available or whatever, I guess.

I've spoken to my dealer and he says that sunroofs are being produced, but in a very limited number until market demand grows for them. The chances of actually having a car with a sunroof included in their allocation is slim.

Test drove a Black SL with CVT convienience pack and sun roof on Sunday.

Would have bought it (wife fell in love with it) but the dealership lowballed us on the trade in Value and refussed to honor the VPP (supplier discount) that they said they would prior to us showing up at the dealership.

Guess it just wasnt our time.

You wants me and Vinny to break their legs, boss?

Sorry to hear. I hate when dealers play games like that.

If you live near one, you could always take your car to CarMax. They'll buy your car even if you don't buy from them. They are pretty reasonable with the purchase price and you could easily take your quote to any dealer to try to get them to match it.

Had we caved and not walked, it would have been close to $25k for the Versa after trade. They offered below poor blue book on our Hybrid Escape that is close to excelent (personal opinion but its definetly at good or better).

Proxim, Looked up Carmax, not here in Az.

$25k?

How the hell could the V cost $25k?

I think gr81 meant since they were low balled, what was left owed on the previous vehicle(s) would be rolled into the cost of the Versa.

Exactly.

The sticker (which they wouldnt budge from) was just under $18,500. Sales tax here brought it to just about 20k and I was offered 5k below what we owe on our trade, bringing the total to around 25k.

Just bought a SL yesterday with a factory sunroof and just about every other option there is. Paid about 24K after getting low-balled on the trade but got the salesman to not charge for the paint sealant so I almost broke even. It was the only SL in the Phoenix area I could find with a sunroof so they must be pretty scarce.

Hmmm, maybe you just bought the one we test drove (doubt it sat on the lot a whole week tho). Was it black and at Avondale?

CO Versa had a good experience with his aftermarket sunroof... I did not. The installers destroyed the fit of my headliner... I traded my Camel in after that.
