Hello everyone just a question im curious about. I was wondering if anyone has noticed if there non cvt auto transmission shifts less smoothly for the first 2 gears then the other one's. Its not a very rough it just seems rougher then the higher 2 gears. I also find that its worse the slower I drive. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my transmission?

I've owned about three Nissans with automatics, and they all shifted exactly as you described. My '99 Sentra shifted exaclty like my '04 Frontier, which shifted exactly like my '87 D21 Pickup, which shifted the same as my '89 Maxima... I suppose JATCO automatics just ain't that smooth? In either case, the transmissions were all given clean bills of health by every shop I took them to. The 1-2 shift has always been harsh... Now, my 1997 Mazda 626 shifted this way as well, only that transmission had known defects (all Ford-built CD4E/LA4EL transmissions were prone to self destruction).

That's just how automatics are. Most people who aren't really into their car won't notice though. The reason the high gears shift less harsh is because they're not on the same gearset as the low gears. Even my Dodge Neon is like this and I thought maybe it was going out but it's done the same thing for the past 50,000 miles I've put it through. Jump into 2nd but go smooth into 3rd and shift smoother, the faster I accelerate.

But that's why I like my CVT
