I don't know the exact details, but I can give you some things I have experienced..

I have the 6speed, wind plays a huge factor is gas mileage, as does speed.

If you do anything over 120KM/h your gonna use 2 times the amount of gas you would normally use, I was going 140 for about an hour, and used nearly half my tank.

I have a CVT and 120 is pretty much my top speed when traveling. I'm still getting 30+ mpg (48+ kpg) unless, as you say, wind is a factor. Once we get to 140, gas mileage shouldn't even be in the equation.

Wind is defintely the major factor on long trips. Weight has less of an impact unless the highway is hilly. Towing a 800lb trailer, loaded down with luggage and 2 people in the car, I still managed almost 30mpg.

Yeah, I was a little worried about mileage on the way back, so i kept it at 120 and that got me around 34MPG, we also had a lot more stuff in the hatch on the way back too :D

I just got back from the Florida Panhandle today in my Versa (4,300 miles round trip). I wasn't carrying a lot of weight so I can't tell you about that aspect, but I can confirm that crosswinds cost me at least 3-4 mpg and the 80 mph speed limit through the hill country of Texas really hurt the mpg, too. I'll be crunching some numbers tonight and will probably post my overall impressions of the Versa's long distance performance sometime tomorrow.

Your question made me remember an old trip out to Eastern Canada. We had 4 adults and 3 kids together in a Mercury Villager V6 with luggage stuffed out back and another stuffed roof box. We were going up hill full throttle and barely made 80kph, the little neon green hyundai accent (the bubbly 90 hp ones) passed us no problem.

Back on topic I had my V loaded with 2 people (me included) with a set of ski equipment, and another 4 snowboards w/ boots and luggage for 2 people for a 1 night stay + snow storm emergency equipment. Needed to shift to 5th gear on one up hill stretch to maintain 120kph and couldn't for the life of me, keep up with my friend's k20 Civic SI. But, thats expected out of a B-segment car. Really comfortable trip though.

First off, the V isnt really a "race" car why would you wanna strip it? unless you just wanna race it. You would need to remove alot of weight to notice a difference and its not worth it.

My Versa loaded with 5 Big ones (people) has a notcable hit in performance

right off the bat (6-speed) Starting from a standstill is MUCH slower and harder, Going around corners the ammount of body roll added is crazy! My mom's SUV has less body Roll when my versa is loaded with 5 people!

Then you try to hit the gas.... and......nothing happens untill you drop 3 gears -_-... I find the Versa to struggle with added weight

Mind you though, I learned to drive on my dad's Benz C230K so I might be a bit unfair

Max is 1400 lbs including cargo...... and pasengers.

5 at 280 lbs.......... I would not want to be in that car! lol

I've taken road trips to the eastern side of the state (over mountain passes) in many a car... and usually with no fewer than 3 people + luggage.

The V does bog down somewhat.. I just downshift appropriately and calculate extra time and space for maneuvers.

Our Tucson, on the other hand, with its burly V6, can get us up over any pass in the state fully loaded without getting winded at all.

Then again, the Versa gets 9 MPG better on the highway, too.
