Figure out what dealer invoice is for the car if you were to buy it brand new today.

Subtract any cash back rebates that are available.

Subtract $2500.

What you have left is your trade in value.

Or, just assume that your car lost 33% of its value the minute you drove it off the lot. So if it was bought for $12,000, you can figure you can get $8,000 for it.

Why are you trading it in so soon?

Don't expect to get close to as much as you bought it for.

And like EV said, why are you trading it? It's practically brand new.

If you know anyone who is an auto broker (or can find another way to) have them search the manheim auto auctions. The initial offer that any dealership will give you for your car will be an average of what other similar 08 Versas are getting in that auction. Its sort of like pulling comps to value real estate.

Burns a lot of gas 20mpg in the city 27 on the hwy.NISSAN claims 24 in the city 32 on the highway.I don't think that these numbers are real.I am considering NISSAN SENTRA 2.0, bigger engine ,CVT transmission almost the same price, the same features and the most important thing 25 mpg in the city /33 mpq hwy

Are you driving conservatively? I do and I am getting over the average for the 6 spd MT. I just got 33 mpg.

If you trade in the Versa for another car to save gas and money, you're going to end up losing big. You are going to eat about $4500. $4500 will buy you 1500 gallons of gas. That's roughly 135 fillups. That's over two and half years of fillups at one per week.

That's $4500 you'll never get back.

You're going to buy another Nissan with the same engine (Larger displacement) to get 4 more mpg city and the same Hwy! You're going to loose a ton of money, not going to get better mileage, you may but it's highly doubtful. My Versa was getting 27 + - but as it started getting through break-in I'm now doing a consistant 30-31 mpg, and I push my cars driving the canyons here in the Los Angeles area plus the wonderful bumper to bumper on PCH! I noticed the power increased as well. So be patient and enjoy the car give it a chance, you're going to loose money no matter, you should just drive it.

Interesting...if you didn't get the estimated mileage on the Versa what makes you think you will get it on the...sounds like you really would like another car (and that is ok).

Wow... not to burst your bubble TOO much but...

1) look at pricing again for comparably equipped models. A base Sentra costs WAY more than a base versa, and they're similarly equipped. In fact, the Sentra, as you start adding the same equipment packages, keeps ending up about $2k more expensive.

2) You're complaining about gas mileage, but want to move to a LARGER, HEAVIER car with GREATER displacement?

3) The CVT transmission, at least in the Versa, averages a couple MPG LESS than the 6-speed. This flies in the face of the EPA estimates. Which, we can't stress enough here... the numbers posted on the car are ESTIMATES and no guarantee of performance whatsoever.

Do you do a lot of stop-and-go or city driving? The CVT transmission seems to REALLY suck at fuel mileage under these conditions. Also, THE fuel economy of Versas falls off quickly if you are cruising more than 70 on the freeway.

And, as Bubs Daddy said, you're going to waste a TON of potential gas money trading in such a new car.

if you want the Sentra because you want a Sentra and can live with the huge hit, go for it. But if you honestly believe you're doing it for the gas mileage, stop yourself now.

I'm with VPNavy...if the estimates on the V aren't correct (but so far they have been pretty close with me) what makes you think the Sentras' estimates are right on. The new MPG estimates have changed recently to reflect more "realistic" driving conditions. The problem is, the conditions are different anywhere you go. Here in Florida, the terrain is primarily flat so cruising at a constant speed does real well with MPG. But if you go into hilly terrain like in canyons or mountains, then the MPG falls off dramatically.

I averaged 30MPG driving at a constant 80mph going from St. Petersburg to Naples...which is about 150 miles away. I was planning on crusing at 70mph on the way home to see if I could see a difference but I go to impatient.

I had the opportunty to check the 'mileage vs. speed" thing on my recent cross country trip. I think the rough average is a loss of 10-15% gas mileage for each 10 mph increase in steady-speed driving over the course of a tankful once you get over 45-50 mph.

Using cruise control over the course of almost the entire tankful with my CVT transmission:50 mph = 39 mpg70 mph = 31-33 mpg80 mph = 28-29 mpg

I understand krissj2001's frustration with the gas mileage on the CVT. As you know, I've been very vocal about my displeasure with the gas mileage, particularly city driving and dealing with sustained climbs in this car. The only reason I'm in the 28mpg range overall is because my 4,500 mile cross-country trip boosted my highway driving percentage to over 60% of my total driving.

krissj2001, if you really are that unhappy with the Versa, avoid the CVT transmission on your next purchase. Go with a manual transmission or a regular automatic on a little more powerful engine. The CVT requires the discipline to keep it at about 2100 rpms while accelerating to maximize mpgs, and even that isn't going to work if you have a large amount of sustained hills or stop and go driving where you are. CVT is great for comfort, but because you don't feel it hit that passing gear uphill you don't ease off like a lot of people do with a regular transmission to save the gas.

By the way, all transmission forms of the Sentra are getting worse mileage than your Versa in the real-world reporting at the EPA website:

I 'll keep my Versa and I am glad that i have it .I am very disappoint since I've seen SENTRA 2.0It looks like second hand car inside, cheap interior, uncomfortable seats.,less internal spaceMissing features(comparable with My VERSA S):-aluminium kick plates-power remote driver side door mirror-cruise control-illuminated entry-retained accessories power-brake assist-panic alarmVERSA is much better at any direction and makes SENTRA existence pointless
