Brand-new forum member owns a 1994 300ZX TT with a clutch that intermittently: 1) Won't disengage and allow shifting into any gear. Pumping the clutch pedal a few times fixes the problem. This symptom doesn't happen very often. 2) Engages and disengages with the pedal very close to the floor, probably within an inch or so. 3) Engages and disengages "normally" farther off the floor, about 3-4 inches.

The last two symptoms can occur on any given day. First drive or two, normal. Then a drive with almost immediate engagement with the pedal very close to the floor. Most often, whichever "mode" is in effect at the start of a drive remains until the end. But on a few occasions, the drive has begun with the close engagement mode, and then changes to normal mode after a few minutes.

Brake fluid is topped up to the Max line, and there's no evidence of a leak.

If anyone has ever faced a similar problem, I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks in advance,

Tosh M (TangoMike3)

Seems to me like the slave is giving out or the master cylinder is. I had a problem like that, but my master cylinder was leaking into the car

Thanks for the input. I'm expecting to have to replace both, but it would be nice to know if these symptoms are indicative of a problem with one and not the other.
