No more pictures of gasket replacements anymore listed on the NICO site. The shop manual is shy about how this gets done and in proper order, if anyone has any additional visual information it would be greatly appreciated. My father was second owner in 1997 and the car has been a dream since our ownership. 125k just replaced the fuel pump, that was fun, otherwise it has been tires and oil. Cheers Mark

Page EM-20 of the shop manual clearly shows the tightening sequence of the rocker cover nuts. Removal is the reverse order of this tightening sequence.

Thank you very much for your response, I have seen that diagram, more interested in hose positioning and order of removal. I am worried about unnecessary removal mostly. The weather has turned cold or I would of already started on this project, hoping to get both sides done this next week. Hope everyone is staying safe an healthy

The valve covers have no gaskets, just sealed with RTV. The right valve cover isn't too difficult to do but the plenum has to come off in order to remove the left valve cover. That's not a fun procedure in anyone's book, but with patience and care it's doable.

Correct for your 1990, but not for his 1995. 1994 (some 1993?) and later were updated with rubber gaskets, and only need RTV to seal the "half moons" that are integrated into the gasket. Also, only the throttle body needs to come off for the left cover.

That's a nice improvement.

maybe. If it's a TCS version, it's a little more complicated. I agree that it *can* be done without removing the plenum, but the 2air make up pipe really tries to pin that cover down. To the OP: if you bend it up for the cover to clear, use a 1/2" ratchet extension bar inserted into the tube, and work it carefully so you don't kink.
Also, it's easier if you remove the EGR pipe entirely, but you might be able to bend that carefully out of the way as well.
be gentle with the harnesses and connector clips.

Passenger side done, in hindsight the harnesses and connectors did demand lots of extra time if you are going to reuse them. I also had plenty of vacuum and fuel lines to replace as almost anything I touched looked dodgy after removal. Also change your plugs when you do this as it is so easy. Plan on half a day. What is the TCS version?

TCS=Traction Control system
has a push switch to toggle off on center console aft of the shifter.
There are other ways to tell, but that may answer quickly if yours has it or not.

Just the base unit on this 1995, thanks for the explanation and the insight about the connects when doing this job, it made a difference.
