Ok, first off, thanks to you guys who insisted that I needed to replace ALL the vacuum lines under the hood. You are absolutely right, the motor runs much better. It took me quite a while, but I did it right!

Second, you guys were completely wrong about how much tubing I'd need. (Don't worry, I'm just pokin' fun at you). :chuckle: It took WAY more than you said it would be.

Here's a picture of all of the vacuum line I removed from under the hood. Everything is there except for a 17" piece that got left out of the picture. I was amazed at how much tubing there was! I had to go back to the parts store 3X! LOL!!!

Anyway, tonight I measured it all just for fun. There is 9 feet and 1 inch of the larger tubing and 19 feet and 8 inches of the smaller size.

The longest big size tubing piece was 39.5 inches and the shortest was 11 inches.

The longest small size tubing piece was 44.5 inches and the shortest was 2 inches.

I did replace every, and I mean EVERY vacuum line under the hood except for maybe a line that went to the brake booster.

So if you are planning to do your vacuum lines, plan on those measurements.

The ID of the hose is very important. You may need to take off a piece of each size to get the correct size.

I have a pretty bad vac leak on my 96 and it is killing all my power. I'd fix it but the truck has 3 months to live. Still the best bang for the buck, vac lines make all the difference.

I'll help since mine is still all stock. Unfortunately, I will be out of town for a whole week starting tomorrow, so in order for me to help, you'll have to wait until next Sunday. There are several "T" connectors and a few lines have a brass bead with a pinhole inside the vacuum tubing.

I will bet someone on this forum will just tell you to cap all the vacuum lines off except the one to the distributor vacuum advance! LOL! If you decide to do that, fine. Lemme know.

im interested in doing this to my 720 KC. what are the dimensions of the hoses id need? diameter/thickness etc. Also, would you advise doing each hose one by one so as to not get confused where they all came from? Im kinda new to all this but dont feel like paying someone my hard earned cash to do something i could do at home.

If you read this post from the beginning you will get the sizes to be bought. Remove them one at a time, cut the removed hose about 3/4" from the end to see the size and cut to length remembering to add the 3/4" removed.

just looked back over the whole post, nothing about the different diameters.... just the total length of tubing required. i see in the picture there are small thing tubes and bigger thicker ones. im just curious as to what sizes they are as i have absolutely no idea how to find out....

Take a smaller ID hose and a larger ID hose to the parts store. They will match you up with new hose the same size. Like Flinterman said, cut about 3/4" off the end of the old hose so that you are looking at the true ID and not the end area where aging has stretched it to a slightly larger size.
