Used QX50 2017 vs 2019 thoughts?

In 2014, the G37 Sedan became Infiniti Q50. G37 Coupe and Convertible became Infiniti Q60 under Infiniti's new naming structure - Here's the place to discuss the Q50 and Q60!

I am looking for some feedback on both the 2017 an 2019 QX50. Mechanically, I'm not sure if I am 100% comfortable with the new VCT engine. Any opinions would be helpful. Thank you

Car & Driver as well as Road & Track weren't really impressed with the VCT engine introduced in the '19 QX50. After 20 years or so of R&D better performance and fuel economy was expected but it just didn't turn out that way compared to the competition. Too many more moving parts in my opinion just lead to more potential for things to go wrong as these vehicles age. Time will tell.

any updates?
i'm in the same boat... finally retiring my old 2010 EX35 with 307k KM...
love the look of the new qx55 but the new CVT just cannot compete with the V6 from my EX35 (and essentially the same engine in the 2017 qx50)... so i'm strongly leaning towards the '17...
my only hold up is "trust" in buying a used car from a non-infiniti dealer. carfax is clean. i wish i could arrange an infiniti PPI.
i guess if there's any major problems off the lot, i could fall back on the original warranty which is still intact for the rest of this year...

If it helps anyone out vis reliability, we had our first VC Altima with 100K+ roll in a few months back, and we've had another one since. I think all of us were terrified about durability issues when they first came out in '19, but I'm happy to say we just haven't seen real problems, even with the turbo 2L. I'm not aware of a single VC-related failure at our dealership to date.

The 2008 thru 2017 EX ~ QX50 vs. the 2019 and upward QX50 2nd Generation are 2 VERY DIFFERENT ANIMALS :yesnod

The J50 Platform is RWD based ( available AWD ) vs. a FWD platform on the 2nd Generation

Traditional Mounted 325 HP VQHR V6 vs. Transverse Mounted Turbo 4 Popper

Quality Built in Japan to exacting Standards vs. Mexican Assembled

Whilst the 1st Generation is basically 2008 Technology it still is a Superior package to latest incarnation of the QX50 and its slopped roof cousin the QX55

From a Price Point ~ Used 2016 & 2017s with under 30,000 miles are out there in Mid $20s ~ even in this inflated microchip shortage environment ~ A much better value and performance Bang for the Buck compared to the 2019 and up versions.

The First Generation is essential a G37 / 370Z with the Utility of a Crossover ~
More akin to a Luxury Shooting Brake

vs.

The CUV Looking Mini Van performing 2nd Generation . .

I think this above is an important point.
Sometimes too much is made of perceived reliability weaknesses that never materialize.
