Salutations-
So, to recap, I bought a seized up but otherwise straight 4x4. I'd talked about it before and thought I'd update the story and share the process of this project to those who give a rats flying something or another. So, like i said, it's seized up, bad. Can't break it loose jumping on a breaker bar. Pulled the motor all the way out, first timer, and put it on a stand. Flipped it over and took oil pan off. After a few days with MMO I got the crank to turn enough to be able to get a wrench on the rod bearing caps(they were hiding below). So, when taken all the way apart, the next step is machining. I'll need a soak, a bore, and who knows what else, right? QUESTIONS:1)What kind of money do you spend at a machine shop for this kind of situation? 2)On rod bearing caps, say I know what order they go in but forgot which side is right side up and they fit both ways. Am I screwed? The symbols on them seem to mean nothing and don't have arrows. 3)Anyone have an opinion on the quality of rock auto parts? Or ITM?
Thanks a pant load chet

Can't help with the cost of machining over there, or the quality of the rock auto parts but you're not screwed where the caps are concerned. The bearing has a pressed lip that goes into a cut groove on the cap. Line up the cut groove on the cap with the cut groove on the rod for the connecting rods or the main cap and the block for the main bearings. Torque to specs.

Thanks. Dropped it off at the machinist today. I'll know what I'm up against sometime early next week.

RockAuto sells name brand parts. I use them all the time. Good stuff.

Nice 720! Nothing quite like 80's graphics!

Alright! Had to get a new crank because the slot on the end where the little half moon key goes was knocked out. Bought a new(rebuilt) cylinder head, just waiting for the machinist to let me know what sizes i'll need to buy my engine kit. After that, a new clutch kit, wires, blah blah, hopefully start puttin her back together by the end of the month. Can't effin wait. Can not wait. I spend every night after work looking at these forums.
Thanks for all the wise nissan know how. I will update.

Alright. I've got it built up to a long block so far. Just need to drop it in and plug all the hoses and wires into it. When it's all done and I fill it with oil and coolant, is there something I need to do to prime either of those? Any other advice I should hear before I start turning the key?
Thanks
Chris

I will pull the valve cover & the coil wire, and crank the engine with a remote starter button watching for oil to reach the cam & rockers. Once I have oil pressure then I replace valve cover & coil wire. Recheck oil & water levels and go ahead & start the motor.

So, I got the motor all ready, dropped it in, and started plugging it all in. It's been the most enjoyable part so far. Got to put in the radiator, some vac lines, and couple other odds and outs. Probably starting it tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help

Awesome seeing you fearlessly tackling this project, and watching it come back together. Nothing quite like the feeling when you fire it up for the first time, and get her broken in and tuned. congrats!

Alright! So it's been a while BUT. Rebuilt the transmission. NOT THAT BAD. Getting it out and putting it in was the worst of it.(that's what she said) No more awful bearing noise. Awesome. Put on the pacesetters which sound great (cut the cat too) and haven't leaked yet. Up on tires as well. Just the 30 9.50 15s. Nothing fancy but no lift required, no noticeable power loss, and they make the truck look like a 4x4 compared to the 27 inch passenger looking tires they had before. Thank god for student loans. Got a free brush guard on the way and workin out some fuel issues. Put on a different 32/36 weber and the fuel pressure regulator wasn't letting in any fuel. Cheap regulator or is all the gas hitting the wall and headin back down the return? I want my power so I need to do it right. I've come too far. I've read that a second regulator on the return can help the problem, IF that is indeed my problem. An insight? Also, whats your favorite inexpensive way to detour truck thieves?
Pictures on the way, thanks a lot guys

NRA sticker could help. Make em think a little about stealing from someone who would enjoy catching them.

Update, just finished the transmission and found a brush guard and went up slightly on the tires to the 30s. I'm stoked. Carb tuning problems though, flat spot on the getty up, driving me crazy.

I like the fact that it is a long box 4x4, a combination Nissan hasn't made in a long time.
