Hey there 320 fans,

Li'l Truckie here, looking to see what Spring projects you might have lined up for when Mother Natural turns the reigns of the weather from Freeze Miser over to Heat Miser?

I worked on a wooden crate today to put some 510 parts in and get them out of the way. So with the garage floor cleaned up the J13 will go on the engine stand and with some help I will work on the '64 a little bit.

So here is a list of my project that I will post here in the Datsun 320 Forum to faciliate some collaboration as I am looking for some information too.

J13 pics for reference, post pics, prep and crate motor.
320 interior break down, colors, pattern, and measurements.
320 coolant system - radiator hoses, water pumps variations, parts. So no, you do not need to buy flex hose and cut to size, I promise! We'll make look original.
320 tool kit - tools, material, tool placement in bag, and measurements so you can clone your own.
A quick re-visit of the oil cannister and spin on oil filter for those of you with the MK-III and MK-VI E-1 engine.
I have an E-1 MK-II engine so we'll also see if we can find an adapter out there for those of you with the cast oil filter housing.

If you have other project for the 320 you would like to see let me know. None of my 320s are in prestine condition, so chances are I probably have the same issues and projects as you, so let me know.

Hope to hear from you
Li'l Truckie

That a bold project that's going to require a lot of modifications to engine and transmission mounts. I've put my sr20det in my 510 on hold for a while. Just way too much money for one project when I have a fleet of 320 that need my attention.

Keep us up dated if you would. I'm looking to put an L16 with BW35 3 speed auto in my one '62.

Loving the direction of this thread!

I am chomping at the bit to start on my 320 restoration, but I need to make sure all my other projects are done (or at least "done for now").

Hey there 320 Fans,

Well Freeze Miser and d!ck Shawn might have wrecked havoc and shut down Southtown, USA for a couple of days, but not Li'l Truckie here in the Heartland!

The cars and little 320s were all started up, cleaned off, and moved around so the driveway could be cleared of snow.

Image

With the drive way cleared it was time to do some early Spring cleaning, pull the J13 out and mount it on the engine stand.

Rest of the J13 photos are here on Flickr. Let me know if you would like any special pic or specific angle.

Enjoy and stay warm, brrr....

P.S. I'll be moving and starting the J13 Project Thread over to the 520/521 in the next day or two.

Oops forgot something there 320 Fans,

This coming week we will also look at the Hitachi and Mitsubishi Distributors for the E, E-1 and the J13 engines. This is quite the sore spot for me as some people out there think these are one and the same....save yourself some money and believe me they are totally different!

We'll rebuild the Hitachi, compare the two, and arm you with a parts list. I promise, you do not have to buy cap, rotor, or points on eBay! Rebuild kit, yes, sorry.

Li'l Truckie,
Which vehicle did the J13 pull from?

The one in the pics came as an extra with the 320s I got out of Montana. The first owner was in to Roy Rogers and bought the little 320 when he saw the Datsun add. A year or two later came across the J13 from a wrecked 520. The man used to sell saddles and he would advertise by sitting one atop of the J13.

From what I can tell this motor has almost zero miles on it from looking at the water jackets and looking at the wear on the flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate.

The one I have in containers came with my '62. It might be complete, who knows.

I'm definitely interested in this topic. It isn't clear to me how the E1 and J13 distributors differ from one another. Cardone has a service to rebuild the J13 (520 truck) dizzy but doesn't list it for the E1 (320).

Conner,

Somehow by default this one has risen to my number one project. I will start a new thread later this afternoon and explain the issues I am running into as well as post some pictures of the 2 very different distributors.

Here's a different one for you all to like or dislike. I was wanting to build something both for, and with my grandson. It had to be cool, and unlike any others.
2.3 ford circle track pinto motor, auto trans, 9" narrowed 273 gear set, 4 wheel disc, shaved door handles, power windows, turn signals modified to cold air intake, back-up camera, frenched in 99 cad tail lights, 2005 cad trunk lid modified into working tailgate, gauge package that cost more that the truck did. 2012Cad pearl white. It's two years in the making, should be on the road in March 2014.

That's some pretty impressive fabrication! Wish I had access to all of those tools.

Where did you get the radiator, and what did it run? Does it bolt right up to the stock holes? I need a new one for my 64 with the KA24 install in progress.

Thanks

Got radiator off ebay. They claimed it to fit Mazda rx7, however I purchased it due to size restrictions. As you can see I did not leave a lot of room. No bolt holes on anything I've done lined-up, except for the master cyclinder. I think it's from 260Z.

As an FYI, Champion will do a custom radiator based on your specs, and it doesn't cost much more than a off-the-shelf model.

My 411 radiator, for example, is a 1st-gen RX7 unit with the inlet moved to the other side.
