so i was replacing coolant lines today, when i noticed one going to the back of the plenum. it came from the metal tube that flows into the return

now, (from searching) the coolant lines to the throttlebody are to warm the incoming air on cold days, what are these lines on the rear doing? (and where does it come from... the one closest to the plenum goes back to the return tube, where does the coolant come from for that one? edit> its right next to where the brake booster gets its line from

and what is the 'collector' on the coolant diagram?

edit> and i dont think it ever got resolved on that other thread, will it be detrimantal to plug off these 'extra' coolant lines (to the throttlebody, etc... and oil cooler since i will be running a big external oil cooler)it sounds like the only bad thing will be it takes longer for the engine to warm up on cold days possibly? dont we want the coldest possible charged air going into the cylinder?

on my motor i got rid of all the coolant lines on the intake side i blocked off the one off the big line under the plenum and all that ****.....my car ran runs fine but i dont drive it on cold days so i dont know......but yeah getting rid of all those lines will not hurt anything! but u will need to either weld or braize or whatever u want to do to block off the tee thats on the big coolant line that runs under the plenum!

hope that helps! if u want pictures i can sure try to get them!

in the stock configuration, the turbo coolant return goes behind the head and up into the back of the manifold there (the other connection next to that one) and that then returns it down to the rest of the coolant. I beleive it makes this little detour for the same reason that it goes through the TB: for whatever "improvement" is gained from preheating the air... too cold of air won't mix w/ fuel well, OTOH if its that cold probably the engine hasn't warmed up yet enough to heat it this way either.. ?

ahh, thats right, i forgot i took off the turbo and all associated lines to get them switched over to the GTIr turbo.... so i think ill just run the turbo return directly into the coolant return pipe under the plenum... rediculously boosted air should be hot enough anyway

i ran my return to the bliock right next to the turbo/manifold - i think tis the original drian plug, i brass welded a fitting on the metal tube under the intake and my steel braided line goes there to the turbo..
