Hey guys I was wondering what do you think is the best possible product for undercoating/rust proofing? My car has never been undercoated since it's spent all its life in Florida and I want to give it the best possible treatment I can.

Thanks In Advance

First, you have to remove absolutely all corrosion or it just gets sealed until it eats its way through to the other side under the paint.

Let's presume the car has no rust or the rust has already been taken care of. So which kind of undercoating is recommended?

Heres the main thing.. the Q has a very good undercoating already... You take a look and its got this rubbery stuff on it from the factory.... Ive *NEVER* seen rust on the underside of an un-damaged Q.... This includes 10 years of my old Q being beat around in the snow..... I remember when I got the car in feb of 04, i could have taken steel wool to the salt caked on there and it would not have touched the paint.....

The key is to keep them clean.... All you gotta do is keep it rinsed and dried.. What I would do in between major snows here is go to a manual car wash, spray the car down with the power sprayer (no soap or anything) to get most of the salt off... From there its key to dry everything out, in the door sils and all the cracks and crevaces..... OYu dont want the salt water to get in there and freeze... I think that contributed to my rust problem (not drying the car)....

Really the Q has no problems with rust, and i think spraying something on the underside of the Q would be a waste..

I do believe that the Q45 was built with integrity and quality. What concerns me is that I spoke with an Infiniti service manager and he believes that when Infiniti built the Q45 in the early years, they were hand built and built differently for specific markets. He believes that the Q45 built for the Southern US States did not have the protection that was applied to other States and Canada. Considering that I live in the Rust Capitol of the world, I am concerned about my Q and want to ensure that I treat it well and treat it right. I know that when humans come here they feel the difference between the climates and get sick, because of not being used to the harsh environment and I can only imagine that a car will feel some difference in the transition. I have also imported cars from overseas in the past and one car actually deteriorated quite rapidly when it came here. The paint, moldings, wheels, rubber all had trouble. I want to protect my Q the best way I can, even if I am being overprotective.

I'd be amazed if they built Qs differently for areas of the US. Undercoating applied after the fact is probably more likely to plug drains and cause rust than to prevent it.

Amen! I am having a very difficult time believing the different build theory. Only applies to first run production prototypes.

I agree, since they were all shipped over from japan...

The difference I think would be somethign the dealer would do upon delivery.

The only difference is in California models -- changes under the hood for emissions, but nothing as far as manufacturing or rust protection. It would actually cost -more- to vary manufacturing for different regions.

Well guys after some research, the best place I could come up with to do the job so far is Diamond Kote:

http://www.diamondkote.com/dkgold_rustpro.htm

The ones I decided against:

http://www.rustcheck.com/http://www.kro ... nfree.com/

Research is still in progress

What ever happened to Ziebart?

I am with 911/Q45 on this one. The horse has left the barn, unless you want to strip and restore the underside before undercoating. Potential for hiding/accelerating damage is greater than protecting it.

Sorry I forgot to list that one. I called Ziebart and they gave me the telephone number to the closest shop in my area that used sold their services and the shop owner I spoke with said that they don't use Ziebart instead now they use Diamond Kote. He said the products are very similar.
