Be wary of those offering cheap paint jobs.... it always sounds too good to be true. Seen it go wrong way too many times.

You get what you pay for. A good painter won't be giving you free labor, because to achieve a good result there's a LOT of it involved.

no hes a good friend, i asked him once before and he said no because he only does $7k plus paint jobs, but yesterday we were at his shop and when he looked at it he decided he wanted to do it for two reasons: 1. "it would be fun."2. right now he only does classicss, customs (hotrods) and restos. but he wants to get into doing import stuff and he is willing to give me free labor so he can get his name into the imports

I say go for it... if he's the real deal. That would make for one unique ride.

yeah hes the real deal (infact hes did a mustang that will be featured in mustangs and fast fords), but if i do it will be a few months because i have a cosigner and i had to promise to keep it stock and well i...didnt. he was okay with it until i got the stripes and spent 1 grand on wheels and tires, so i need to get my refinanced before i do much more

Im jealous man. Ive had plans on two-toning my paint since the day I got my V. And then bulldog's chop was exactly what I had in mine. And now your getting it and gunna show it off waaaay before I do it to mine :P. Good luck with it though man. Hopefully I can get mine done soon and we'll go cruise or somethin lol.

So if I take a trip up there can he hook me up too?

Firstly... DROOL!!!

secondly...a) the stripes are vinyl... wtf?b) if you kept the old ones, the wheels don't make any difference...

So I can see having to get it refinanced before the paint job... but it's a hot paint job by a professional .... who is your cosigner?!?

When my brother and I were teenagers, he wrecked my parents' navy blue Ranger. It was one of those cases where the vehicle was totalled by the insurance company, but didn't sustain a lot of damage, so they bought it back from the insurance company and had it repaired and repainted.

One of my mom's friends had a boyfriend at the time who ran a body shop, and he did all the labor for free. Did an amazing job, too. He repainted the entire truck cream colored, and even painted all the way down into the engine compartment. You never would have been able to tell it was in an accident or had once been blue.

Now, you should always respect your parents... but I would respectfully ask why he wants the vehicle kept stock and see if there's a compromise... Maybe if you plant some seeds and let him know that you're being responsible but that you also want to personalize your car without having to have your interest rate go up or waiting 5 years...

I would try it, but only if you can stay calm and respectful throughout the conversation.

Ahh.. the advantages of being an old fart like me... You can do whatever you want to your car.

Of course, the V isn't the one that's going to be receiving the bulk of my attention in that respect.
