I have tried searching all over the Internet to figure this one out. I even tried a little exploratory surgery to do it myself, but I failed.
I have two indicator lights burned out -- my driver's side front-facing indicator/parking light is really dim. And then my passenger side side-facing turn signal is out. I have the bulbs, but I haven't figured out how to get in to change out the bulbs. I tried getting in to both of them.
The front-facing bulb seems to be part of the main headlight assembly. I think I have to remove the whole assembly to get at it from the back, but it seems to be attached with a couple of 9mm hex bolts at the top and inside, and SOMETHING on the bottom. And it's connected to the front grille too, but I figured out how to release that.
Is it really this complex?
I just spent the weekend fixing a $700 Jeep Wrangler defroster baffle. A horribly engineered part that was designed to fail, and to be incredibly inaccessible. A certain amount of judicious bodging fixed it with a long 5-cent deck screw, but I had lots of nasty things to say about Chrysler for making it so intentionally difficult to access or repair. Am I in the same situation with my Xterra's simple indicator lights?
I hear secondhand the dealership charges $40 or more to repair this -- but now I'm determined to do it myself for the principle. Oh, and because moneys is always tight these days.
Thanks in advance.
