I am a new owner of an 05 350z. I am in absolute love with the car and and looking to do so much to it to make it my unique z. I want to upgrade my power first before i totally go all out on the appearance of the car. Ive always felt that if you are gonna make your car look amazing, it better run amazing. I do not have an extensive car knowledge but i do know more than average. From my research it seems like good upgrades are a cold air intake, new exhaust systems, and a turbo. Turbo is obviously the most expensive. I was interested in the turbonetics single turbo kit. If i did have that kit installed and tuned properly, would it be alright on my stock engine? I really would just like the hp to be anywhere from 400-425. Is there a way to get this hp using a different route than a turbo? and my car is automatic...is that ok? Sorry for the long post and newb-ness....i hope this doesnt get flamed..

thanks in advance

Well you have done some research if you had done more you would know the answer to this but no worries,

Yes you can do this on stock internals just make sure you get the intake and exhaust done as well or first. 400 -425 is where you will be at the crank to stay safe on stock motor. to get that to the wheels you will be running more of a risk allot depends on your tuner. Some have gotten 700HP on a stock motor but then you run into reliability. All depends on your final goal.

Sounds like a good plan just get the full kit and find someone experienced to do the install g/l

700 hp on stock internals will destroy your engine on the first run. Hold back on the intake if you're planning to go F/I.

I read somewhere that if you have your engine block “sleeved” that it will allow you to run a much higher HP. Does anyone know what “sleeved” means? I googled “sleeved engines” but found very little info.

aluminum blocks have steel inserts for cylinder walls (sleeves). when people mention sleeving them for HP upgrades, id imagine its a replacement sleeve with better specs... probably thicker or a better grade steel

they are inserts that fit into the engine block that make it stronger after you bore it out fore bigger pistons. http://www.importpartspro.com/davqmidslkit.html

blower, supercharger, nitrous, ect... you could probably get close to 100 more horse with addons that dont involve FI, but your talking major $$$ per hp

I just really want to hit that 400hp mark, but from what i see, if i turbo is, i would been to do alot of work to the internals. There has to be a way to et to 400hp w/o turbo...?

Cosworth just built a VQ35DE motor for the Sport Compact Car Tuner Challenege that made 438hp and 359ft-lbs ot tourque which is an amazing accomplishment.

The motor was troked and bored to 3.8L and the cams are huge. Fully rebuilt heads and short block.

I think the total engine cost $18,000. Then you will have to add all the other stuff such as an ECU/Tune, Fule system etc.

I don't see this king of N/A power happeninng for less than $25,000. That's alot to pay for 438hp when you could spend the same money and have a twin turbo kit making 700hp.
