Truck making some noises

Ok well i have had my truck for a while. It was always just a work truck and i didnt really care about it a whole lot. Now im wanting to kind of restore it and hang on to it. Im getting the rattle in the morning and after it sits for a while. So from what i have read on here is the timing chain guides. So how hard is that to change out? What other stuff would you change out while you had it apart? And how hard is it to get back in time? Also im not sure what this other noise is. You know when turn on the key all the way before you crank it. You can here what sounds like the fuel pump prime up or a relay or something? Well my truck will do that real quickly while im driving it. I can here that same noise. Now not all the time which leeds me to believe it may be a electrical issue? Any help on that would be great

It is a 96 D21 2wd std cab 5 speed
