Hey Nate,

I'd be interested in those T56 pics (hook me up at [email protected]). Unfortunately, this Aussie dude in Yankie land isn't a professional mechanic. Sometimes I wish I were one, and had access to all the tools to complete the swap. For me, this is just a hobby for now. 'Commonwhores'...haha! gotta love it. U know they sell the 4-door commonwhores over here now, rebadged as a Pontiac G8.

Yeah, I wish I could find a way to get a T56 shipped over to the US cheaply. I know the commodores are plentiful. These boxes can be expensive. I'm waiting to come across a good deal, perhaps at a wreckers. I'm seriously thinking of getting one and rebuilding it myself (whether that works out to be less expensive than buying an already rebuilt one, I don't yet know). The ones on eBay are going for $1200 and up. It's not easy to think of forking over for a transmission that costs more than the engine...but if that's what it takes...

Later,Dave

this thread piques my interests greatly and thus, I bump thee to the top! Let the knowledge pour into this thread and wash away the veil of mechanical lust to let a new age dawn...the age of the nissan v8.

sorry...its 2:30am, I'm tired and can't sleep....tossing around the pros and cons of Z32 swaps (LS1 NA vs VH45 turbo)

edit: has anyone with a cardomain account tried contacting that guy on cardomain about getting the CAD files for the VH to T56 adapter plate?

Z32 NA Auto ring gear is the smallest.

Z32 NA Manual, Z32 TT Auto, G50 VH45 Auto ring gears are all the same.

Z32 TT Manual is the largest.

The above info is kinda pointless I guess, but hey, someone might find it useful.
This is the current problem.

Z33 trans here and paid for vh45 here and paid for. Designs for the adapter plate are ready just need to go to the shop and make it.

What's the difference between the clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, ring gear, pilot bushing and so on.

Basically can I use Z33 clutch flywheel etc and a Q starter, Z32 clutch flywheel etc and a q starter or some combo of the 2.

Sorry I got tired of searching. I would think I need Z33 pilot bushing and Z32 NA flywheel clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, . Is this right am I missing something. Tell me what I've got wrong here before I buy stuff and have to send it back.

I'm under the impression that the Z32 stuff will line up with the splines on the Z33 trans.Since the S13 and the Z33 trans are both the same spline count at 24 I assume every Nissan manual is 24 spline.... Is this correct ?

And what's the difference between a pilot bearing and a pilot bushing and do I need both?Modified by EMK at 11:43 AM 3/29/2009

Both the Z32 and Z33 used the same standard nissan 1"x24 spline input shaft(clutch hub), 8 bolt flywheel pattern, pilot bushing (nissan uses bushings not bearings) as well as release bearing. The Z32 and Z33 flywheel bolt patterns are the same, but the ring gear offset is vastly different. I think your best route would be to use the Z33 n/a flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and find a way to make the Q starter work with it(I think it will be about 1/8" farther out).

I think you meant z32 NA flywheel clutch pressure plate throw out bearing etc. Since the Z33 only comes NA and would be quite impossible to make the starter work with the z33 components as the clutch is 250mm versus 240mm of the z32 NA and the bolt pattern is vastly different on the z33 clutch making the larger and heavier flywheel of the Z33 a no go. Plus the starter doesn't bolt to the out side of the block with the bolts being perpendicular to the block rather there is a bore that the starter fits through that aligns it and the bolts that hold it in place are parallel to the block so the only spacing would be to move it forward or backward and being that the ring gear is cylindrical and not conical or tapered this would only serve to disengage it. But enough of this I did a lot of looking and since the input shaft is the same and the z32 NA flywheel has the right diameter and tooth pattern one can just use all z32 components and the z33 transmission should function just as if it were it's own.

I hope this is right it seemed to follow these rules for Carl H

I'm curious if you have managed to mate the Z33 trans to the VH, and if you ended up making the adapter plate you were talking about?

I have a Z33 trans sitting around that I could make a template of the bellhousing to show dimensions and bolt patterns, if that would be helpful to people. I've rebuilt and modified a few of these transmissions for high performance usage.

[QUOTE=XJared] (nissan uses bushings not bearings) QUOTE] xjared this isn't entirely true because there is the nismo pilot bearing! i prefer the pilot bearing but just my .02 cents

Hate to bump this thread this way but does anybody want to sell their Z32 manual trans to fund your T56 or Z33 trans swap? My Z32 trans has busted 3rd gear synchros.
