When I accelerate from rest in my Q45 75,000 miles, the auto transmission seems a little noisy, almost like a faint turbine like whine. Compared to colleagues 20,000 mile 02 Chrysler Concorde the Q seems definately more noisy. For example in the Chrysler the noise is simply engine noise in a low gear at high revs whereas the Q seems to be a mixture of engine and the transmission noise. Do they all sound like this, is it worn, should I try a different type of fluid or an additive. I recently had a standard transmission flush at a franchise, but the noise was there before this.

If I back off on the gas when I am accelerating the noise goes away

Once you notice that whine, you'll never stop hearing it! Sounds sort of like a Ford P/S Pump, right? Some of it is also the A/C compressor (which is on anytime the climate control is set to "AUTO")

The whine will be more obvious in cold weather (under 55-60F), and at start-up. I had my first, second, and third transmissions replaced under warranty because of that noise(service advisor wrote them up as slipping or poor shifting at cold temps.)

They all do it. I finally gave up.

All of that being said, it's hard to quantify how much noise is normal without hearing it. If you have a chance to drive another Q, or two - that'll tell you a lot. Best thing you can do is flush it with Mobil 1, have the pan drop done and replace the filter and o-ring, and go with it...

And another reason is the low revs you use to drive around in the Q. When the Concorde starts, I bet it goes routinely to between 3-4000 in low, and maybe 2nd, if the driver gives it any gas. To keep up, you would shift at 2200-2500. This gives you more opportunity to hear that whine.

I always think that, for about 5000 miles after I put in a brand new trans filter, the noise goes away. But, I could be wanting to believe that because it is a lot of trouble to change the filter!

I have that same sort of thing too...... I dont worry about it, because the transmission is fine for the most part (except for my cold 2-3 slip)
