This shouldn't even be a question... Though if you could have a lower gear ratio like in my Rx7 would be nice though.

Mines an auto but has the tiptronic option (+ or -) on the right hand side of the stick if I want to be silly.

You shouldnt even need time to think about this. Its like a natural reaction & guy instinct to say 6spd. Cause anything else would be uncivilized!!

This question is like a talk radio topicIt gets everyone going, some take this seriously, some like to stick the knife in for fun. This topic on my 350z had hundreds of replys. Although mine is a AT, I will have to agree that a MT allows for better corning,(to control your rpm's) and better management of control overall. Some think that a AT is better suited for A "non sports car" but Nissan knows it will miss alot of consumer moneys out there, if it doesnt offer both. In my younger day I wouldnt have had anything but a MT, But now I can concentrate,(and actually listen to my wife) without the gear changing distractions. I love my AT, and if I have a wild hair up my arse,Triptonic baby. Go ahead beat me up for my opinion., its all good.

So you actually want to listen to your wife? Haha, anyway........if you have ever driven a stick for any lenght of time you would know that it becomes second nature, and you don't even think about it afte a while. The only way i would ever have an at is if I built a drag car. Mt is the only way to go for the track, and having fun on the twisties in the country.

I would have gone 6 speed man, but I got to drive in the city 5 days a week... plus I'm too young to afford two cars now.

Manual all the way -- 5speed if daily driver... 6 speed if used primarily for show/race.

Hey Katy neighbor! Just curious on how you do against a sub 5 second Evo? Be honest now! They are fast even though a butt ugly box with four doors.

Chicks don't drive sticks. Real men do.

Just kidding but a 6 speed is way more fun than an auto on the Z.

I bought the auto to keep the wife happy. She just wont drive a manual and the Z might have to be a backup for her. Now that I have the car, it is quick for an auto, plus when going to events this summer, i wont miss holding the clutch in when waiting in traffic.

It's generally pretty close, but I've noticed that the Z generally starts to pull ahead in 3rd. I've seen the Z usually win at the higher speeds, but it really comes down the experience of each driver. The Evo seems to take the lead on the launch pretty much every time though.

Also, what's the spitting water supposed to mean! :O

*edit* I should also add that I haven't raced very much. Maybe five times max. So take my opinions with a grain of salt. :p

I don't really get the idea of people who think, " Hmm i think today i'll go buy a sports car, but wait, i better not have too much fun, i'll take the slap-o-matic AT". Don't buy a sports car and then rape it of its ability by getting the Auto.... C'mon people, seriously. My cousin did that, wanted a sports car but didn't want a stick because he was afraid to learn. Its not hard people, takes 1 hour to learn it, and 3 days to get comfortable, and a month to get good at it.

Automatic. I don't run on a track and love the freedom. I cannot shift manually due to the rev limiter. Timeing is everything and the computer does it much better than I. I believe you could heat up some slicks and beat the auto off the line but...check this out... http://www.zcar.com/forums/read/5/1916100Well to my surprise the automatic won all 3 runs. The drivers switched cars and the automatic still won. I still don’t get it what does the auto have that the 6 speed doesn’t?

I don't know about the auto's but on my manual there is a rev light and you can set it where ever you want it to come on so you shift right on time. I have mine set for 6400 so that way i'm looking at the gauge waiting for the 6700 mark, then shift. Basically the car has a built in user set shift light.

Whenever i see a person driving an evo, sti, or s2000 i can always say there is a good chance that the person behind the wheel knows a thing or two about his/her car. (most of the time at least) Which is why i find it kind of disappointing that they made an auto option for the 350z, sure they would probably lose a few sales but that's usually a good thing to not see your car repeatedly in the streets. And ever since the evo X MR came out, ive already seen quite a few on the road since they've come with the "twin clutch" gearbox option. and this one was priced around more than 7 grand of the IX MR which came with a 6spd.
