I saw the same warning this am when I went out and started my car. I turned the car off right away and thought . I said a prayer after checking the trans level and started it back up with no issues.

I have had the trans flush done last week and had Wes put in the trans cooler last week, with no leaks. I do have a power steering leak, but it has gotten better since I tightened up some clamps yesterday. The power steering fluid is correct.

I too have no clue what is going on.

You can do a self diagnosis on the trans by doing this article.

My favorite Q45 error message! It could be:

Battery failingAlternator failingFPCU failingMAF failingFuel pump failingIgnition system problemClogged fuel filterBad injectorsDow Jones Index dropping 200 pointsBritney Spears shaving her headIn VERY rare cases: An actual transmission malfunction of some sort.

I would describe that computer screen as "very cute" at best. Like on 80s stereo components that say "ULTRA VIRTUAL SURROUND", or the fancy "INFORMATION CENTER" on a Chrysler K-car that shows a red light when "something" is wrong.

Do the RPMs drop and does the vehicle almost stall or almost stall when this happens to you?

While usually, especially if the car did not change driveability, this message is not life or death for the car, it is ALWAYS a good idea to see whats causing it, as its really easy.

Not in my case. My at light came back on again. I started the car and the light showed but only for a moment prior to going to ok. My car seems to run pretty well no shifting issues and no drops in my rpms. I have no issues either with the speedometer or the power steering.

I will run the self diagnosis on the AT and see what I get.

Thanks for all the input.

UpdateI ran the self diagnosis and got an A code. I was able to clear the code and get back normal. At least for now. My wheel bearings are bad on the front drivers side so I am not driving until the parts come in from Joe tomorrow anyway.

I am new to dealing with cars, even newer to dealing with things under the engine. But I was reading that the A code which is for a Turbine Revolution Sensor. Not a cheap job. I also have had a check engine light come on, only when I am over 70 mph. We checked it and the code showed bad 02 sensors.

Then I just read this in a Pathfinder thread.

Turbine Sensor- Often this sensor does not fail, but instead leaks fluid, possibly on other components. Sometimes its been known for the fluid leakage to cause other sensors, such as the o2 sensors and such to fail as well.

If this is my issue is there a way to fix the leak or is a replace of the sensor the only way to go?

Jesda and Wes,

Toinght I turned on the key and got the "transmission malfunction" for a few seconds, then it goes out.

The yellow "check" light is on, on the engine icon.

Pushing the accelerator past about 40% caused the car to bog down.

Light throttle and the car accelorates slowly and shifts up through the gears, although with a bit firmer shifts.

Turning off the car and restarting did not change anything.

Any guesses?

Thanks

Bruce

OK, now I am feeling like a hypochondriac.

My Q sat overnight. I put in the key this morning and turned it to the on position. The display said “OK”. I started it up, still OK and no “check” light.

I took it for a couple of mile drive and no problems.

Now it may that the Q was feeling nervous and decided it better not act up. I had planned to take the Q to an early morning yard sale to check on some vinyl that was available, but because of last night I took my turboed Solstice.

Well obviously the Q saw me drive away in the two seater. When I came home the Q was on its best behavior, almost.

And this is the part that makes me think I am becoming hypochondriacal. Yesterday I noticed a grinding noise from the front passenger side when braking. Just like metal on metal, but the pads are really think and the front rotors were recently turned.

This morning I only hear the grinding with forceful braking. If I slow more gradually there is no noise.

Wheel bearing?

What do you think?

Also, what was up with my transmission yesterday? I have been driving differently since I put in the NICO ECU. I am driving with Stage II and I have been stirring the gears with the shifter.

Thanks for the feed back and help.

Bruce

It sounds a lot like the FPCU when its about to die. When you push the throttle all the way on a failing FPCU, it starts to behave as if it can't handle the extra voltage.

I can't say what it is for sure, and you'd have to check your fuel pump/FPCU connector in the trunk to see if it looks burnt on the ground pin.

Got an alligator wire to play with to see if doing an FPCU emergency bypass erases the symptom?
