I recently installed a twin turbo kit on my previously naturally aspirated 300zx. I'm wondering if the stock transmission will handle the extra power. If not, where can i find one that will? Thanks, I appreciate the help

5 speed or auto?

% speed is the same as the TT except the bell housing, speed sensor, and I think one other thing. So yes, it will handle the power. Now the clutch if it is a stock NA clutch, then no.

Per my research (I do not have actual experience with the Z) 300zx OEM trannys are generally considered reliable up to 300 HP. Failures have been reported in the 400+ HP range. The transmission for both the NA and turbo'd zx seems to be the same except for the bell housing, so I think you're good to go. I imagine someone else with more experience could chime in. :gotme Until then, here's a link to a similar converstaion:

PS - congrats on the turbo upgrade. How is it running? Does it feel great?

PPS - welcome to the forums! :bigthumb:

Thanks for the welcome And for your input. I got it finished up yesterday, and it's running quite Well. I'm gonna wait until I find out more about this to dyno test it though.

5 Speed trans can handle past 500whp reliably. I have known too many people that have had 0 issues at around 500whp. I had 400whp and never had an issue

Autos on the other hand, not as strong. That is why they are also called autotragic. Can be built to handle though and give really quick shifts

BTW, you posted a link to a z31 trans, which is basically the same as a 240sx. Which is pretty weak.
