I posted this on the Z side and didn't get much feedback.

Is it normal to have a little bit of vibration downshifting into first? I've never had that in any of my other cars, but this one when I'm coming to a stop if I'm not almost stopped I get a little vibration on the shifter like the gear is grinding a little. No other gear does it. Is that just a Nissan trait, or do you think my clutch might need adjusting?

:ohno:

I always downshift to first below 20 MPH frequently when in traffic or coming to a traffic light and have no vibration.

Original brake pads replaced at 84948 miles in April 09 :bigthumb:

I will just have to pay more attention and make sure I'm going slow enough to go into 1st. Never had this problem before, but I guess since it doesn't do it in any other gear the clutch must be fine.

Shifting into first when moving can cause the syncros to grind...that's probably what you're feeling/hearing. Definitely not a clutch thing...

Does it sometimes have a slight knock or soft clink when shifting into 1st from neutral at a stop?

You ignored me. It was a joke.

There is bound to be some vibration here and there. Best bet is to try driving another's to see if it does the same thing. Nissan is simply going to stamp "normal" on it until it actually breaks.

Have had cars that would grind when downshifting to 1st unless you were at a stop or almost at a stop. So, I never do this anymore.
(Use your brakes...cheaper than clutch/transmission...unless you are playing.)

There is a little clunk sometimes. Sometimes I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the fact that I'm so darned short that I'm not getting the clutch in all the way. :tisk: I love it when I wear my platform shoes so I can sit further back. I hate to have my seat up close.

No.
01 Pathy was the only Nissan that I remember it not liking downshifting to 1st....
Learned early on with my 69 Mach to not downshift to 1st unless stopped, but still have done it on rare occasions.

Good. I get violent when I'm ignored.

Or is that sullen and cry in corners? Yeah, probably the later.

even on the auto... a early down shift to 1 has vibration...

but yeah i lean toward not ever down shifting to 1st gear unless at a complete stop.

It's unanimous...no more downshifting into 1st while I'm rolling.

I think we love all pics. I presume you're not doing a kegstand in this one.

And next time you step over Matt, you should kick him with one of those platform shoes. :naughty:

The Conquest definitely had a "cool" factor that the Daytona didn't. But your income evolved, and so did you. You have some very cool cars now.

Becki, here we are 'jacking another one of your threads. If we get enough activity, maybe we can get it on the front page of a Google search for "transmission". (Don't, just don't). :tisk:

It's ok Mudge. I started it. :) I think it is totally acceptable to hi-jack your own thread.

The worst car I had as far a boring goes was a 4 door plain Jane Grand-Am. :squint: It wasn't that it was a bad car, it just WASN'T ME!!

You want boring? I once had an AMC Hornet for a daily driver. Of course, I also had a Torino with a 351 Cleveland, and a Datsun 2000 "Fairlady" (downdrafts, both tops, factory roll bar) at the time.

I learned to drive on my mother's 72 Grand Torino Station wagon!

Once I got my Mach, I said I would NEVER have a car with more than TWO doors and less than EIGHT cylinders....... :nono:

We had a 1990 Taurus STATION WAGON for almost ten years during the dark days of my automotive ownership.....But, it was a great car for hawling our three kids and a dog.

But, talking boring....and eating your own words... :yesnod

I learned to drive in a pasture at 14 in a Ford deuce-and-a-half dump with a shifter that felt like pulling a canoe paddle through a bathtub full of spaghetti, a clutch that felt like you were setting a bear trap, and enough play in the steering that you actually had to drive the way they did in all those old rear-projection movie shots, sawing the wheel back and forth. _Everything_ since has been an improvement.

BEST golf trip vehicle I ever rode in was a Taurus wagon from the nineties--four guys, four bags, luggage for a week at Pinehurst, plenty of room and cruised at 70 like a dream.

It might have held 4 guys luggage but it wouldn't have held 4 gals luggage.

I guess my coolest car and one I would like to have back was my '01 Black WS-6 with black leather interior. Gosh that was a beautiful car. Car I would like to have back that was 1st hubbys and mine is the '68 Charger 440 6bbl.

I learned to drive in my mom's '70 Charger. It was only a 318 2bbl though. Not fast, just pretty.
