OK, the J transmission has a capacity of 8 3/4 quarts as per the descriptioin in the service manual. I plan on using Mobil One syn ATF along with Red and Black Lubeguard additives. How much ATF should I supply for the flush proceedure? What are the best flush systems? How much of the Red and the Black would be appropriate for a J transmission with 124k on it? The transmission seems to function normally and the colour of the current Mobil One syn ATF is still good. The pan was dropped and filter changed at around 70k. The transmission pan was shiny and only about 1 mm of metal on the magnet.

I've searched the past posts and want to have the latest thoughts from our gurus on this proceedure.

I was extrememly heartened to hear of the J owner who had over 200k on his original transmission. I want to beat his record!

They say do the pandrop/ filter change after the flush......

I think Q45tech mentioned its best to use half of red, and half of black if I remember correctly......

I don't plan on doing a filter change at this time. Straight ahead flush and ATF treatment. Next flush I'll get the filter changed again.

I remember Dennis saying that too much of the black could be bad. The additives are used to mimic OEM Nissan fluid. I wonder if just getting OEM fluid would be safer but is it synthetic?

Nissan stuff isnt synthetic I dont think.... however, since you replace it often, I dont think Id see a problem in doing it that way!!!!

I am running straight M1 ATF with no noticeable shift performance difference. But I am no guru when it comes to things automotive.

Now I'm wondering if I could pick up a few quarts of conventional ATF to run through the transmission first before adding the synthetic fluid. I suppose I could just get more Mobil One but that stuff is expensive.

Are conventinal and synthetic ATF compatible should there be any of the former left when the exchange has been completed?

I read all posts mentioning Lubeguard and saw that post. What is the ATF capacity of the Q so that I could pro rate the amount for the J? I'll err on the side of caution with the black and only add 3 oz to begin with.
