How many of you out there run wheels and tires without the TPMS sensor.

Does the light always stay on, or does it always stay off since there is no signal from sensors?

The light will come on and stay on if the sensors have been registered. That is a process we do at the dealer using the Consult II (or III) and transmitter to get the BCM (body control module) to recognize the sensors. If you remove your sensors, you can try to have a technician perform only half of the registration process but I am not sure if it will keep the light from comming on or not. At the beginning of the registration process, the origional codes stored in the BCM are erased and all slots available to recieve information from the sensors read "YET" meaning they haven't been programmed yet. At that point, instead of programming the sensors, have the tech select "BACK" on the Consult II to exit the programming proceedure. Again, this may or may not work, but I think it will.

I will say though, that it is a great safety feature to have those sensors installed and it should fit 95% of the wheels out there. It's best to keep them installed, especially on long road trips.

Hope that helps.

I have driven for over 20 years without TPMS without any problems, and even my parents over 50 years of driving. TPMS is nice but, it can be a pain i the but. MY light came on, cool, so I checked the tire pressure, it was low. I aired the tires all to 35psi, TPMS would not go off. So I had to waste gas and time to go to the dealer to have the system reset. Now that can be a pin in the behind.

If you could just reset it yourself with a push of a button, turning off the car for 2 minutes or something, it would be nice, but having to go to a dealer to reset it sucks.

I understand that. If you air up your tires, then you have to drive at 20mph or more for a few minutes. Normaly, I drive around the parking lot at work a few times and the light goes out. If I have to pull out the Consult, then there is a problem. The mandation of TPMS in tires in 2006 is not because people wil get flat tires, but for gas mileage purposes. 10 lbs less air means more waisted gas. For you, this is common sense, but for 85% of Americans, that thought never crosses their minds.
