Well, I have one of the 1st Versa & the TPMS has been fixed once, but I have learned to igore the TPMS light for 7 months now.

I need to bring the car in to the dealer for the airbag recall & thought about having the TPMS fixed at the same time. The last fix was replacing one sensor, but now I think the BCM needs replacing. The tire shop tried to reregister the TPMS when I got the new wheel & tires, but that light is still one in failure mode.

Are the new Versas having the TPMS problems as the early 2007 models do?

I don't think the newer versa's have them (mid 2007+) I have after market wheels with out the TPMS sensor so I live with the light on not a big deal to me.

All U.S. Versas came with them. They are required by law for all new cars sold in the U.S.

If I get it fixed one more time & it fails again, I will take apart the gauge cluster & black-out the TPMS light.

I have an early Versa, and had two TPMS failures in the first ~3000 miles. But I've reached 15,000 now without a reoccurence. I'd say go ahead and have them fix it.

Is there a wiring diagram to show where a person could deativate the light on the dash? I have the 2007 Nissan Versa service manual, but it does not address the TMPS as it was not yet required for that model year.

Of course, if the TPMS is now legally mandated, how long before it becomes an inspection item in at least some states?

I really wouldn't jack with it.

It is already A mandated item here in Virginia if you don't have them in your after market rims you will fail inspection.

I guess you could keep your stock wheels & tires & swap them for your nannying state's worthless inspections.

The BCM (or at least the programming thereof) was modified for new factory installations as of roughly November 2006. Versas built before then may have the problematic BCMs, Versas built after then (like mine and CodeRed's) don't seem to have the problem.

I'd take it in and get it fixed if it's still under warranty.

I just used the manual reprogram technique. You know, the key to on, then off then on or wtvr...worked for ME!

Ours is one of the very early ones, purchased 07/06.

Went through three trips to the dealer before I could convince them to follow the instructions for diagnosis of the faulty BCM.

It will probably act up tomorrow now, but it has been successfully off since the BCM was replaced about 8K ago.

This is a well known problem, and should be no problem to get taken care of. If your dealer gives you grief, give Nissan a call and get them involved - you will be amazed how quickly it becomes no problem.

In reply to XterraVersa,

All that is required here in Virginia is that your TPMS is in good working order. So if you decided to by 18 inch wheels for your V then all you have to do is install the tire pressure sensors for each wheel or transfer over the sensors from your stock wheels to the new ones. I hope that clears up any misunderstanding about my previous statement.

I am not picking on you, but your state.

I work for the Colorado DOT & the topic of vehicle inspections has come up again. We used to do it, but found it a waste of time & tax payer money vs the lack of a reduction in accidents. I certanly hope we never do it again. People are already throwing to much money away in government fees & taxes for worthless nanny programs. (But this is not the correct forum to discuss this)
